King of Hyrule shouldn't link here, and the article has to be modified. The reason? Well, Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule is one of Hyrule's kings, but certainly not the only one. In TMC, the King is called Daltus Hyrule, and his ancestor Gustav is mentioned.--85.177.179.213 15:12, 31 July 2007 (PDT)

I have a theory that King Daphnes may be a Gerudo. well I dont know if anyones gonna read this at all but here goes

  +
|licensing= Copyright
*when he is the king of red lions he has what looks similar to a gerudo symbol on the door where the crane and sail comes from

  +
}}
http://zeldawiki.org/File:Crane1.jpg

*his name- king of red lions, why not king of high ears or something related to hyrulians. desert literally means red land, so he could be king of red lands in that way and also the gerudos hair is red almost like a main of a lions is shown to be red sometimes hence king of red lions

*his skin is the same colors as Tetra before she is turned into her Zelda incarnation. This means that he was born with a dark color (spirits dont tan) and why is this important because if we look at all the previous royal families they are purely white skinned . this can be shown when Tetra turns into Zelda, she gains the white skin of the bloodline.

*His facial features are similar to those of Ganon's.

*he compares himself to Ganon not in a physical way or in anyway that means he is gerudo but when you add this to the fact that he is the only king known to help fight off the baddie in a zelda game, I began to suspect his intentions were not only to save his kingdom but because it looks like he has such strong feelings towards Ganon almost like he has to reclaim the name of Gerudo and not have it be only associated with Ganon. Also when he compares himself to Ganon this could mean he thought he was different, maybe even better then him as a gerudo but still the same as he would not let his dreams of Hyrule kingdom go and Ganon would not let his dreams for conquest of Hyrule kingdom go.

The so-called white skin you mention is only makeup. It was a common practice in the middle ages for noble women to cover their heads with white powder to appear to be more pure. So the dark skin is normal. There have been been no other members of the Royal family, other than Zelda, depicted in any Canon source to any great detail. Therefore you cannot say that all of the royal bloodline have perfectly white skin. the king compared himself to Ganon because they where both tied to Hyrule. The King because he was a spirit and Ganon because he wanted to control land, not a bunch of islands. Lions are always associated with royalty. And the color red is often associated with courage. That means that the name the King of Red Lions has no connection whatsoever with the Gerudo.--Matt 17:43, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

*When you say only makeup ...do you mean in hyrule or in a real kingdom or time, because then its hard to compare that with a games customs..also you can see 2 kings who have white skin. and why would his spirit form not also show him in this way if it is makeup for royalty his spirit would want to be shown as such.

*If the bloodline was not white skinned why would Tetra be shown changing from tanned to white...whats the importance other than not to shock people with a tanned zelda...also if that were the reason, meaning they didnt want a tanned zelda wouldnt that mean they want the royalty to be seen as white skinned

*I already said, I began to think...not, this is why he compared himself...but its worth noting that he is very hardcore about beating ganon....even flooding his own kingdom (I know the gods did it) I also know that is one of my weaker points but again its worth noting.

*Lions are associated with royalty...in our reality....but I have yet to see a lion depicted in Hyrule Kingdom and without that you cant say it is hyrules sign of royalty.

*and the point about red being associated with courage........nice..you got me there, only thing I can think of is why king of red LIONS..unless the lion emphasizes the courage, so for that im stumped.....unless in hyrule courage is depicted with green not red to associate with Farore's courage, but now im grasping at straws since this has never been shown except with link wearing green and thats hardly a reason.

*also what do you think about that Symbol on his door hatch...Gerudo like or not?

The game creators base a lot of material an the real world. They won't make up new customs on such a trivial matter. Yes lions are also associated with courage. As the name is the only reference to lions in the series, they would have no need to change the custom from the real world. If game developers had to recreate every single little detail, we would never see them completed. Also, customs are not rules. .If a king disagrees or if the circumstance forces it, a custom would not be followed.--Matt 18:52, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok .... i still dont believe that to be enough to convince me otherwise because whether or not they base things on real life doesn't mean they can't recreate a detail. Also I just Can't agree with you about the lion fact since even hyrule castle in wind waker has no sign of lions anywhere..lots of triforces though. And "trivial" details are what makes games great you know so to make it just right I think they would put the time in to do anything...why not

Move
I have NEVER agreed of adding a title to the article name just because the character has it. I think we should move the page, specifically to just his name, He himself says:

It's not good form to include the title of the character in with the article title. It's supposed to be what the character is known most well as. If the well known name does include the title, then and only then can it be included in the page title. (Such as with Princess Zelda). This page it is not the case and we should move it. And do a crack down of similar pages and get them straighted out. 03:05, August 27, 2010 (UTC)

Hylian Crest Beard
Not a huge deal, but I noticed in the trivia section that "when viewed from above, his collar and beard resemble the Hylian Crest". That doesn't make much sense to me, but I can see a Hylian Crest in his beard without the collar and from a normal point of view. The "soul patch" and "goatee" sections of beard resemble the body, tail, and feet of the bird. The side areas up to the ears look like wings. The moustache is a bit of a stretch, but that might be either the Triforce or the bird's head. Like I said, not a big deal, but do I have permission to replace "top view" and "beard and collar" with "beard"? If it still needs a reference, I could briefly describe where I see the Crest in the King's facial hair! Bpenguin17 15:36, 29 August 2010 (EDT)

:I really doubt that anything was intentional. It's just his beard. I personally think that piece of pointless trivia should be deleted, as it seems to fall under "squint and it kinda-sorta looks like it" rather than a genuine Easter Egg. Ganondorfdude11 23:28, 29 August 2010 (EDT)

::I think it was intentional to make the Hylian Crest appear as a disign on him because he is the King of Hyrule. Jeangabin 14:35, 30 August 2010 (EDT)

So....
Is he the King in OOT or has another generation of the royal family come to power? While i'm kind of on the subject, was tetra's mom the queen?Zelda4life 00:39, 16 March 2011 (EDT)

OT

:How is that off topic? To my knowledge it was never made clear in the games.Zelda4life

::Well then. It was never said that she was the queen, what we know is that she was an unknown princess of Hyrule. It's doubtful that he's the same king in Ocarina of Time, because the game takes place in the adult line and in that line, the Zelda in Ocarina of Time is apparently the only surviving member of the royal family after all the events are over. So most certainly this king was a descendant of that Zelda. We can speculate all we want about what the king was exactly, but in his own words many of hundreds of years had passed since he was king. He said he was the king when the Goddesses sealed Hyrule. That would have been hundreds of years prior to the start of the game. So most certainly there were further generations of royalty after him. But none of them would have taken power, because all knowledge of that line had been lost. Tetra would have been the first person in the line since that king to have ever taken a crown. That's what we can gather from the game's information without diving into too much speculation. 21:58, March 16, 2011 (UTC)

:::......Okay Zelda4life 10:26, 19 March 2011 (EDT)

::::I labeled it as off-topic because as is apparent, Matt dealt with this question in non-concretes (i.e. words such as "speculate", "doubtful", "would have been", etc. that imply theory). You said it yourself, "it was never made clear in the games" - and the grand majority of the time, if an idea is not made clear in the games, it tends to reside in the realm of speculation. Sounds like its a better question for a community forum! 20:13, 19 March 2011 (EDT)

I smell copypasta...
This article is pretty similar to King of Red Lions...so we've got a couple options, here. One: we merge them (not recommended or endorsed by me at all) or two: We change the pages up so they aren't copies of each other. The information needs to be prioritized based on what we're talking about. For example...nothing needs to be said about Daphnes on the KoRL page other than the fact that he was the king of Hyrule when it was flooded, and that he was awakened from his seal when Ganondorf reached the surface so that he could find the new hero and the new Zelda, which is why he magically controlled the KoRL. Nothin about the end of the game needs to be on that page. Likewise, nothing needs to be on this page about the KoRL other than the fact that Daphnes controlled it to guide Link to his kingdom so he could defeat Ganondorf. 05:36, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

:How's this? I removed most of the information tied to the King of Red Lions, but added some that I felt relevant to his history as the King. I'll see about giving the King of Red Lions page the same treatment. 09:28, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

::I like it. It's a good start, and it's much better than having two identical articles with different names in several places. Good work, Pakkun! 01:16, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Family Members
Should we add http://www.zeldawiki.org/Princess_Zelda#Antediluvian_Princess to Daphness's Family members? since she is his daughter. --Isamisa 04:31, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Title?
So...Could I add "Wind Waker" or perhaps "Waker of the winds" to this guy's list of titles? Given those are Link's titles in this game due to him using the baton, and Daphnes was mentioned to have also used the baton, as per the theory on the page...? == Weapon-Wielding Warriors Artwork? ==

Where's the artwork for him wielding the Sail from Legends? I could've sworn I've seen it somewhere but it's not listed anywhere on the wiki, and he's the only character without that type of image so it's kind of weirdly inconsistent. Peanutjon (talk) 15:51, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

:So far it can only be found in the game's artbook, as it was never released online. 18:58, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

::...Weird. Well, as long as the weird inconsistency's on Nintendo's end I suppose. Peanutjon (talk) 19:46, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
