The "Warping Theme" is the name of a familiar six-note melody frequently associated with the Legend of Zelda series. It is often associated with items that can warp Link, such as the Recorder.

Appearances

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

The Legend of Zelda

When used, the Recorder plays the six-note theme. With this item, Link can make Digdogger vulnerable to attack, warp from anywhere on the Overworld to the entrance of any dungeon he has already cleared, and reveal certain concealed dungeon entrances.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Warping Theme is used as the melody in the game's title screen music, and is also extended beyond its usual six notes.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

Much like the original The Legend of Zelda, the Warping Theme allows Link to travel quickly across Hyrule. The Ocarina of Wind, obtained from the Fortress of Winds, is used to play the theme.

Non-canonical appearances

Non-canon warning: This article or section contains non-canonical information that is not considered to be an official part of the Legend of Zelda series and should not be considered part of the overall storyline.

Super Mario Bros. 3

The tune plays whenever Mario or Luigi use the Warp Whistle to bring them to the Mystical Warp Zone. The appearance of the Warp Whistle itself is similar to that of the Recorder in The Legend of Zelda, and both warp the player by means of a whirlwind which moves across the screen. The song remained in the game when ported to the Game Boy Advance under the name Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Wii's Virtual Console. The reason for the theme appearing here is because the creator of the Zelda franchise, Shigeru Miyamoto, is also the creator of the Mario franchise.
