Snow Temple

The Snow Temple as it appears on the Nintendo DS screens

This part will get you through the entire Snow Temple.

Inside the Temple

There's nothing we need to get outside the temple, just pots we can break for hearts if we need them. So let's proceed inside.

Floor 1

In the first room we enter, slay a Keese and go north into the door. Now we're in a big room where we have some Ice Chuchus roaming around, which we can stun with the Whirlwind then slay with the sword. There's a bell sitting on top of a block near the center of the room that we need to push northward into a slot. North of that slot is a pillar with musical notes on it that we need to read: generally, it's telling us to strike the big bell twice. So, after we get the big bell into the slot, strike it twice with the sword, and a door on the lower right corner of the room on the east wall will open.

Go through that door, and you'll see a set of stairs going to the right with no bridge connecting it to the ledge on the right. However, we do see a block that we can push around, so make sure it's pushed toward the left side of the ledge, touching it. Then just go up the stairs, and you'll leap onto the block and be able to climb onto the ledge. Then go right and down through the door.

We'll end up on the east side of the room we've been through when we entered the Temple. There's a new enemy called the Octive that sticks his head out of the waters, spitting projectiles at us. Use the Whirlwind to hurl the projectiles back at the Octive, knocking him out for good. Before we do that, though, there's a switch orb that's across the water from us on the left that we need to hit. Use the Whirlwind to hurl the Octive projectiles at the switch orb, causing two bridges to appear. Rush across the bridge, avoiding the projectiles, and then head north into the door that will take us to Basement 1.

Basement 1

In the first room we enter, there's a slippery floor and a block that we need to push into the icy pool of water to the right. Push the block into the water, then jump onto the block and aim the Whirlwind toward the propeller pillar we see to our immediate right to get it moving, causing a door to open. Now we're going to use the Whirlwind to propel us across the icy pool to the upper right corner of the room, where the door has opened. There's a Freezard waiting for us there. Strike it when it's close to you so it can fall into the water before you jump off the block and head for the door.

In the next room, push a block into the water and jump onto it. We'll be taking it for a ride around the corner and toward the door at the upper right. Use the Whirlwind to propel yourself on the block as you did earlier. Along the way we'll have Octives to deal with. Again use the Whirlwind to make their projectiles hit them instead of you. Or you can propel yourself close enough to them so you can strike them with the sword when they're dazed with just the Whirlwind.

In the next room north of us, there are two switch orbs that are across the gap that we'll need to hit. Just go to the room on your left, and the door will close as you face off against some Ice Keese that will freeze you on contact. Use the Whirlwind to stun them, then strike them with the sword. The door will reopen, and a treasure chest will appear. This will give us our next weapon, the Boomerang, which will be plenty useful in this Temple.

Go back into the room with the two switch orbs and direct the Boomerang to hit them both. This will cause a bridge to appear so we can go north into the door and up the stairs back to Floor 1.

Floor 1

In the room that we enter, there's a small bell on a block waiting to be pushed on the left, plus a plaque on the north wall with musical notes, telling us that we now need to hit both bells alternately. Go south first and direct the Boomerang to hit the switch orb on the other side of the wall (unreachable by any other means) so we can open the door in the lower left corner on the west wall. Then push the bell into the center room where the big bell is and into the slot, using the floor tiles as guides. Once that bell is in place, strike both bells as directed with your Boomerang. This will cause a door in the lower left corner of the room on the south wall to open.

Go through that door, and we're now on the west side of that first room we were in when we first entered the Temple. There are five torches arranged in an X pattern, with only the one in the center that's lit. We need to light up the other four torches to open the door on the left. Using the Boomerang, direct it to strike the center torch, then the northeast, then the southeast, then the northwest, then the southwest. This door will take us down the stairs back into Basement 1.

Basement 1

In the room we've just entered, there's a locked door just to the right of us, and there's a treasure chest across an icy pool of water to the right of us that contains the small key for the door. Now comes a rather inventive way we're going to use the Boomerang: have it strike the Blue Fire torch, then scribble a path that will form a bridge across with the Blue Fire when the Boomerang flies. Quickly get across the bridge and open the chest to get the key, then cross back over to the other side where the locked door is before the ice breaks and melts.

Now open the door and enter the room just north of us with an icy floor and a Red Fire torch lit. The door will close behind us, and we will have four Freezards to deal with. Don't strike them with the sword, or they will bounce very fast and wildly across the floor and hit you. Instead, use the Boomerang to melt the ice of each of the Freezards and then strike them down with the sword one at a time. The closed door will reopen, and another door to the right of us will open.

Through that door we see that there's an icy propeller pillar in the north end of the icy pool that we need to unthaw. Use the Boomerang to snag some Red Fire from the torch and strike the pillar to unthaw it. Then use the Boomerang to create a Blue Fire ice path for us to get close enough to the pillar to get it rolling with the Whirlwind. This will cause a door right next to it to open. Create an ice path so that we can get to the door.

Now here comes a really tricky part: we need to create an ice bridge one section at a time that will get us across the icy pool toward the door on the upper left. What really makes it tricky is that we need to also light up other torches along our path with Blue Fire, and if that isn't hard enough, there are also Octives in the water hurling projectiles at us. You can create ice paths to enclose them in so you can strike them with the sword. Striking down all Octives will cause a treasure chest to appear near the door, which will reward you with 100 rupees.

Once you reach the door, head on up the stairs and back into Floor 1.

Floor 1

In the room that we enter, we see a bigger bell on a block that we need to slide into the same center room as the other two bells. Making this part tricky, however, are icy pools that we need to get the bell to slide across. Use the Boomerang to create an ice bridge to get the bell across the first pool, then create another bridge so you can hit the floor button to open up the door, then slide the bell into the center room, then use the Boomerang to snag some Blue Fire to light up another torch. Now comes a really tricky part: freeze up as much ice over the next pool as possible so you can slide the bell to the tile guides and then into the slot.

Now we have all three bells in place, but what do we do with them? Go back into the room on your left, go across the icy pool, and then go down through the door into a room on the south where there's two Red Fire torches and the ground's all covered in snow. Slay the Fire Keese that's in the room, using the Whirlwind first to stun them, then use the Boomerang to unthaw as much of the ground as you can with Red Fire. This will reveal musical notes that will clue you in as to how you need to strike the bells.

Going back into the center room, strike the bells with the Boomerang in this order: left, center, center, right, center. This will cause a door on the north wall of this room to open. Go through the door, ignore the Freezard that's in that room, and then go up the stairs to Floor 2.

Floor 2

In the room to the left of the hallway we just entered on this floor, there are six unlit torches surrounding two lit ones in the center, one with Red Fire and the other with Blue Fire. We will need to find a way to light up all six torches at the same time.

Just down the hallway to the south of us is the door that requires the Big Key to open. In that area there are Ice Chuchus that we need to stun and slay. Near the door, around the corner, we see not only the Big Key sitting on a platform in the middle of a big gap, but also there's a plaque that we can read to show us how to light up the torches.

Going back into the room with the torches, hit the following with the Boomerang in this order: Red Fire (center left), northwest, southwest, southeast, Blue Fire (center right), northeast, north, south. This will cause a door in the hallway that's to the right of this room to open. Enter that room, and the door will close behind you as you'll have to fight off a pack of White Wolfos. Use the wait-till-they-charge tactic and strike them with the Spin Attack. The closed door will reopen, and a door to the left of us will open. Go through the left door and then down into the room with the Big Key on the platform. Step on the floor button to cause a bridge to appear on the south end, then stand on the bridge and use the Whirlwind to blow the Big Key safely to the other side. Then grab the Big Key and take it carefully across the bridge over to the door that we need to unlock. Go up the stairs to Floor 3.

Floor 3

Nothing we really need here, just a blue portal to take us back to the entrance of the Temple. Proceed north and up the stairs to the boss room.

Temple Boss: Fraaz

Now we're going to be dealing with the boss Fraaz, a mouse-like creature who likes to play with both Red and Blue Fire. In the first part, Fraaz will either turn red hot or icy blue as he gets ready to charge up a heat or cold attack. Use the Boomerang to hit him with the opposite color Fire from the torches to stun him so you can hit him with the Sword. After a few successful strikes, Fraaz will split up into two smaller mice creatures. Fuse them back together by using the Boomerang to hit one of them with Red Fire and the other with Blue Fire in a single throw. After Fraaz is fused together, he will destroy both torches and now start floating around and bloating himself up as he gets ready to spew fire or ice. Keep out of his way when he spews either, then quickly use the Boomerang to hit Fraaz with fire or ice when he charges up the opposite attack. The quicker you hit him with the opposite color Fire, the quicker you'll be able to deflate him so you can him him with the sword. After two successful strikes, Fraaz will again split up into two smaller mice creatures, but now you'll have to wait for them to spew forth both fire and ice in order to use the Boomerang to fuse them together. Once he is back together, Fraaz will again float around and bloat himself up as he gets ready to charge up his attack -- only this time he won't immediately change to the opposite color that soon after he attacks. Wait until he does change, then hit him with heat or ice with the Boomerang to deflate him before going in for the kill. When successfully defeated, Fraaz will bloat himself up and then go poof. A Force Gem statue will appear, and so will a treasure chest that contains your next Heart Container.

You've completed the Snow Temple. Now step into the blue portal to return to the entrance.
