User:Oni Dark Link/ Series evaluation
from Zeldapedia, the Legend of Zelda wiki
Welcome to my evaluation on the Zelda franchise. I have listed what I think of all the games even the one I have not played (four swords... yay! sprit tracks. it isn’t out yet but i'm giving it a top spot for evaluation ready for when it comes) in order of when I played them. It’s also kind of like a history of my life Zelda wise. I have also included some non cannon games that I have played and would like to play. I’m also a very lazy person and since no ones going to read this I’m going to do it at a very slow pace. I have split up the games into four categories related to what and when the game is. If anyone understands the substantial substitute category then let me know. When you think about it it’s not that hard to figure out. Oni Dark Link O and ignore the spelling mistakes I don’t want to know about.

The first Zelda game I ever played and in my opinion the second best (after Majoras mask). Loved by every one and I am no exception. It had a brilliant story and game play. I played and completed this game at the age of five. My brother (he has had quite an impact on my Zelda life which will be discussed later on) bought it two or three weeks before Christmas. We started playing it the day we got it. For the weeks that followed if I wasn’t playing my own file on this game I was watching my brother play it and of course I had to sleep. Five year olds need to sleep. I have since completed this game more times then I can count and have played it on the Nintendo and game cube (both master quest disk and collectors edtion) but not on the Wii (excluding just sticking the above disc in to the Wii) because I see it as a waste of money since I stil have the master quest disc.

the millennium Zelda game and my favorite for a first play through although after recently obtaining it again and playing it in my adolescence where I know what’s around every corner it seems to be not as good as some others for replays (I deem the following the best for repeated play through. Zelda ii {so shoot me}, ocarina of time and minish cap). None the less I count it as my favorite Zelda game. I was slightly older getting this at the age of seven. The saving was annoying for about three hours but then I fell in love with it. I also fell in love with Goron link and his reckless rolling. Majora's mask young link is to this day still my favorite. I am awed at how they could put adult like strength and intelligence into an innocent child like body. Look at majora's mask link and you can see it on his face. He’s tougher than ocarina of time's Young Link and he can wield a huge great fairy's sword. I could go on for centuries describing this game but another fact about why I loved it has to be the 10 ft tall fierce deity. Who inspired my name on this wiki. The pure anti-hero feel to him is amazing. *sigh* I love that game but alas I can no longer play it (well I can now thanks to VC but i'll include the following info). Remember the brother I mentioned earlier. Due to delerias want of dance music he sold all my Nintendo 64 games save three to buy a pair of dex. So it meant bye bye ocarina of time as well as majora’s mask (super Mario 64 and yoshi's story are some others also). Only complaint that I had was that Epona seemed a little obsolete compared to the mighty Goron. It also has a perfect music score and the dungeons are among the best yet.

My memory is quite hazy here. I’m not sure what year this was but it was most likely 2001 or 2. I got a loan of this game off my friend who had never played Zelda before. I managed to get to the... fifth dungeon (I think) before it had to be returned as he was traveling to England for the summer. When he got back he said he'd lost it. To be continued later.

As mentioned above I lost all my Zelda games at one point which has never again happened since. This was brief though because I knew I had to go on and the thing catching my eye was the new console. Game Cube. When I said he sold my game, that wasn’t strictly speaking true. They were his games but I was the main player who spent more time with them (read the book or see the film 'The Field'). it was different this time though because I planned on buying the game cube my self which I eventually did and in one great stroke of luck I managed to buy, my silver game cube, one controller, one memory card, one wind waker game, one ocarina of time game and one ocarina of time master quest game as well as splinter cell (which my brother payed the extra ten euro for in this deal, I have never played this game) for only 220 euro. I was ten at the time and even I had some doubts about the graphic style but once I touched the controller it was irrelevant. It was a Zelda game like any other and anyone who disagrees disserves to be shot in the arm. It had a good sound track and story too the only thing that doesn’t make this game perfect is the bosses which were (in an under statement) too easy. o and finding the Triforce pieces that was just there to be annoying. still great game.

great game that I still have today (kind of. I gave it as a loan to my friend who has lost it! it better turn up). I also deem it the best for replay throughs. I’m not sure where I got this game actuly. I did get it quite soon after wind waker was completed. I do remember buying it but don’t remember the box or any prevous saved files. strange. some conplain about the story but I liked it. I liked elzo as a character and the minish abilty. it also has some of the best bosses in the game with vattis final form certainly being the hardest one ever faced (ive played Zelda ii and can still say this) mainly due to not knowing what to do aganest the final form for weeks. it didnt have a lot of dungeons but it kept you doing plenty in between each one. the sword tecniques were a new likeable twist. the figurenes is something I could do but it would require alot of ruppie collection to buy rip off priced shells. I have never gotten less then two kinstone fusions left. tingle and one of his brothers would fuse with me but twice but his other brothers would only fuse once each which makes me wonder.

this game was fun and obviously would of been better if I had roped in a few more people but game boy port things were hard to come by in my little town. it was annoying with the whole only one weapon at a time thing. not much really to say. iratating that two player could only be used with two gameboy advances instead of one controller and one game boy advance. in the area where I lived there was three game boy game cube links but I never got around to having a good shadow battle. coming to think of it I have no idea where the game boy advance port is that I got with that game...

despite the apparent low ratings I really liked this game but I cant really give it a good mark for story. the sound track and game play are quite basic too but it is a good game and I do reccamend it. theres a certain feel to it that makes it good that cant be marked on stars in any catgory. it is very hard though and not for the light hearted {the thing the had be stuck for the longest was finding the eight dungeon but still no online walkthroughs used :) yay}. I can also safely say I apreciate how good a game it is because I have played over 150 nes games all on one cartridge for the game boy advance (its like a cheat thing you illegaly download except its looks legaly offical although I did get it second hand so...) and if you have played nes games then you will certainly know how much of a jump in tecnolgy this was. I wish I could show you 150 nes games just so you know how brilliant this game is (ps its the first ever game that could save... ever!)

I played this up untill I completed the second dungeon and got stuck. at this point I wasnt to fond of it then but later I fell in love with it.

meh... what can I say here... nearly everyone on zeldapedia is bound to of played this game already since its the easyiest Zelda game to get at the moment (still quite expansive though). I liked it but there was something about it. the story was great but I do think it kind of lagged in the second half of the game. the first three dunegens and in between are amoung the best opening ive seen but after that (uh this is hard to explain)... any way you know above I said there was a feel to the origenal that made it a good game well this is kind of the oppsite. there was a feel that made the game not that good. as if it was missing something. maybe it was the complete lack of side quests or the pointlessness of having sword and shield equipment. it was hurryed to be released so maybe there is some missing stuff that should be there.
[edit] The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons 2/2
years later the same friend that lent this to me before finds it again and I jump at the chance to play it. I found it to be a good game but like twilight princess I thought it lagged again in the middle (I had to start again just to add in). it was an enjoyed play though with some nice monsters and weapons and landscape. I much liked the season change and the land of suberbia. onox was a nice final boss too but I think he complatly lacked any impose on the story. there should of been a couple of scenes in the middle where he got some screen time just to reming us of his exsistence (I know he isn’t the real final boss just adding in again). the complete lack of a final dungeon was bad also but still good game
[edit] Zelda II: The Adventure of Link part 2/2
I eventuly returned collectors edtion but a wile later another friend (it sonds like more then it is. Ive only mentioned three different friends so far here) asked me to check out a game boy advance game he had. I've mentioned it before. 153 games in one featuring three game boy advance games and 150 nes games. righ at the top of the list is none other then Zelda ii. I recognized it and told him it was the second Zelda and he paticly forced me to have a lend of the game (this was around two years ago, and still have it. its not like I havnt tried to give it back the time was just never right ans he hasnt asked for it so...) I played Zelda ii and did find it extremly difficult. I have a policy of not getting any internet help for a game until I see the "The End" screen appears but with this game its just not possable to complete it with out internet help. it is vital. three times. I had to go to the internet three times. once when I got to the place where I was stuck the first time finding bagu. the second was finding the flute (you have to jump through an inviable wall! with no hints or anything as to where it is!) and the thrid was finding the hidden village (I manged to find hidden dunegon by my self but hidden village was just... for those that don’t know to find both you have to press a certain button while standing on a certain part of the map). regardless I do love this game maybe because it challanged every fiber of my gaming soul. it also tuck me several playthroughs because with the above examples I had become convinced I had done something wrong at the start of the game and deleted the game and starting from scratch. due to this I now know the game like the back of my hand. this game also must be completed 100% to complete it at all because the great tempele is horrible (enemies, layout, traps everything). you need every single bonus thing avaliable in the game. this is getting very long for just the one game so I have to just end it now.

yes they are very low ratings. Mainly because I regard this as a very low quality game and hope spirit tracks doesnt turn out like this. ive ranked this as my least favorite Zelda game to of played so far. the controls were fun for five minutes before I was board (but maybe my lack of a stylus affected that). the story was a half done effort with no really memorable scenes (although line back did have a couple of humorus moments). The weapons in this game is one of the reasons its ranked so low. there are what, six weapons in this game. every good Zelda game needs at least one weapon needed to get into the next dungeon, a weapon for the dungeon, a good few bottles and one or two undeeded weapons. phantom hour glass has only one of these (a dungeon weapon). not even a bottle. none of the dungeons were memorable at all and they completely ignored putting in a final dungeon. it was also an exceedingly easy and short game and if all future zeldas are going to be like this then god help us all. Funnyly enough though i bought this game in north america while on holidays (bargin, €50 in ireland €35 in america and at the time the doller was super weak. Could of gotten it even cheaper if it wasnt christmas aswell) so when i go online with itthere is no option to play with europeans but is for north americans.

was going to give the game play five stars but that would make it too high rated here. All in all it was a great game. There was plenty of Dungeons and pleanty of weapons. The sound track was unbelievable as well. it was like ocerina of time only retrofied. it was had good gameplay and story and I would reccamend it to anyone. Many people do find this there favorite Zelda game but for me its good but it does lack some things (like side quests there wasnt anybig side quests) but when you compare it to its two predessers the fact that it has dialoge was a huge improvement. Also one thing I noticed in this game that has noting to do with anything is that gannon is perferably left handed in this game. I wonder if that was always the plan...

I bought this on ebay a bought a year and a half ago along with oracle of ages. I think the ratings perfectly describe this game. A good game to play for some fun which is what Nintendo were thinking when they made it. They had made there serious game with Link to the Past and then decided to make a game where they didnt have to follow the rules such as sticking in friendly chain chomps and a yoshi doll. It had some good bosses and dungeons but a major disappointment was the lack of a final dungeonn (some thing they continued on in the oracles series). It did have very few weapons though, something I didnt like. The sound track was quite good especially Tal Tal Heights. It was quite a good game all and all and gets a reccamendation. O yeah and I see it as syombolic that the game titled Link's Awkening came out the same year I did.

Holodrum or Labrynna? the answer. is that its one fantastic game on two cartridges and not two games that should be rivaled aganest. Ages didnt quite have the same flare in the game play the seasons did but it did have a flawless story. the complaints about Onox not having screen time and an imposing effect on the story cant be said about ages. Veran knew when to turn up at the right time. you really can see alot of links awakening in this game and I do give these games a very good score and together they make a truly epic adventure.

its been an exciting run that has spannes 16 years of my life but now its come to an end. I speculated wether or not I should buy this game on ebay but eventuly said no. I would need four copys of the game as well as a link cable and I don’t really have the resources to play it. As far as I know about the game is that it is quite short and doesnt have a lot of eapons so it doesnt really sound like my cup of tea but co-operative playing does sound appealing. sadly I’m afraid I will never play this game unless circamstances change or I become very detirment. still ive played more then most here and would go as far as saying I know more about the series then most but thats just me :)

[edit] non cannon games I have played or want to play related to the series
1. Super Smash Bros.: I convinced my friend to get an emmulator and briefly played this on that (uh). wasnt great but I think that was mainly down to the key board controls. its coming out on vc in japan whaich is one I’m certainly downloading when it arrives at europe. ignore all that. I have it now
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee: 282 trophys. o yeah. go Gannondorf. need anymore be said?
3. Super Smash Bros Brawl: didnt find it as enjoyable as melee for some reason. I’m not sure. disapointed that young link had to go (don’t get me wrong I love toon link {but not his name he should be cell shade or wind waker link in my opinion} but majoras mask young link is just my favorite of all links). if you want my friend code all you need to do is ask.
4. Soulcalibur II: havnt played this but I’m getting a lend of it and should of played it by the time I bother finishing this page. I have played the origenal soul blade though. ok ignore the above ive played this game now. Link is so cheap with his grab and the great fairy's sword rocks.
5. Link's Crossbow Training: id like to try this game out just for fun. I don’t think it looks that good does anyone reccamend it.
6. super link mario(?): don’t worry if you havnt heard of it. no one has. its basicly the origenal super mario bros only with link instead of mario (while small he is link from the first Zelda with a heart container {instead of a mushroom} turns him to link from Zelda ii and a sword {instead of a flower} puts the shield spell on him which doesnt increase defense but does let him throw bouncing swords).
7. cd-i games: havnt played them but id like to. every one says there useless but everyone says that about Zelda ii too.
8. Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland: I would have this games if it wasnt for the fact that it costs money.
[edit] The list
now this is more for me then you. I will now see what order my favorite games are. they are marked based on the rating I gave above.
11.Spirit Tracks (we'll see)
10.Four Swords (We'll probly never see)
9. Phantom Hour glass (no surprise)
8. Four Swords Adventure (to be expected. still a good game)
7. Zelda II (this is surprising. I liked this better then some of the other ones... no weapons thats why its here)
6. Legend Of Zelda (like the above its only really here because story was a mark)
5. Links Awakening (seems about right)
4. Twilight Princess (Lack of side quests havnt been measured)
4. Oracles (counted as one great game. drawing with twilight princess although I think I liked it better)
3. Wind waker (Drawing with Ocerina of time. that turned out great)
3. Ocerina of time (cell shade or real style... answear. depends on the game)
2. Minish Cap (What the hell! didnt know I gave this such a good mark)
1. Majoras Mask (What else)
Ok then that obviously scerwed up. Zelda II should be higer and although minish cap is a good game it should be lower then wind waker and ocerina of time. so I think my real favorite list should be.. 1=MM 2=OoC/WW 3=MC 4=OoS/A 5=AOL 6=TP 7=LA 8=LoZ 9=FSA 10=PH. That seems about right (only ten games because I havnt counted FS or ST and counted ages and seasons as the one and ocerina of time and wind waker are on the same place).
note: I some how managed to miss a link to the past in the list above I’m not sure how but its done now and adding it will cause a lot of confusion and I’m not ready for confusion yet. I will fix it later and since no one reads this page they probably wont even know there is a problem.
[edit] The manga
Since this is turning into a history of my zelda i might as well tell of how much of the manga ive read. Ive read the majora's mask, ocarina of time and link to the past mangas in that order and like ocarina of times manga adaptation the best. Link to the pasts lingered way too much in places and skiped over way to much in others. The majora's mask was good but very short and there definetly should of been a chapter for reuniting with epona. I planning on reading the oracle of seasons one next purely because of the pics we have of it on the onox page.
[edit] 3 Heart challange
Just a quick list of my three heart challange beaten games. All my challanges are done only with swords required to beat the game and only one bottle and half magic meter.
| | This user has completed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with only 3 Heart Containers. |
Done with zero deaths, one bottle, half magic meter, no shell hearts, biggoron's sword or nayru's love
| | This user has completed The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask with only 3 Heart Containers. |
Done with no fairy gifts (save bubble) and one bottle (damn twinmold killed me several times)
| | This user has completed The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages with only 3 Heart Containers. |
Done with zero deaths and zero gasha seeds (not to make it harder just because i never bothered planting them)
| | This user has completed Zelda II: The Adventure of Link with no life upgrades and it was damn hard. |
done with out any life upgrades or extra heart containers. Very hard. I mean suicidly hard. Check out my video of the final temple http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd-zafTOqvo
| | This user has completed The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker with only 3 Heart Containers. |
done with with no deaths, no bomb/quiver upgrades and the only ting i put in my botle apart from the water was elexer soup which i got during the endless night and never ended up using. Made me realise how little forced bottle use there is in that game.
| | This user has completed The Legend of Zelda: The Minih Cap with only 3 Heart Containers. |
done with zero deaths, no bomb or arrow upgrades, no kinstone fusing, no blade brother techniques learned except sword spin and pot breaker and only one non maditory bottle use (got a fgairy just before vaatis wrath)
[edit] Challanges started:
Phantom Hour glass: changed my mind. With spirit tracks coming out next month i decided to start a three heart challange on Phantom Hourglass first. just got the salvage arm. heading to the temple of courage.
- Seasons: Origenaly planned for before Phantom Hourglass but now ive decided to do it afterwards.
Twilight Princess: As soon as i finish playing my current wii games ill work on this along side the other two.
[edit] And a poll
Just so I know some one might read this I have a poll. if no one votes on this poll I will be very sad that no one is reading my pointless info. :( so feel sorry for me and vote for something.
