Watchmen (9/10) Edit

So, who does watch the Watchmen? Well, aside from those who see the film, I mean. HAHAHAHA GET IT no really. Watchmen gets a lot of hate from both critics and those who've read the graphic novel of the same name, but I find this all needless; Watchmen is a near-perfect film adaptation of the graphic novel (and when I say near-perfect, we all know it's not because of the chick who plays Laurie). Patrick Wilson and Jackie Earle Haley are both brilliant in this film as Nite Owl and Rorschach (!!!). Basically, the movie starts out with the murder of a man by the name of Edward Blake. Rorschach starts investigating and things, er...go either downhill or uphill from there depending on the perspective. Anyway, the acting's great, the scenery's great, and the story changes are literally just right (no, seriously, just slightly different and they wouldn't have been nearly as good). Really good stuff.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (9/10) Edit

Another really great one that I've seen twice now (well, maybe two and a half times?), Scott Pilgrim vs. The World takes a seven-or-eight-I-can't-remember book graphic novel series and turns them all into a movie. And I have to say, from what I've read of the graphic novels, I actually prefer the movie. Oh yeah, plus there's the inclusion of A Link to the Past's intro theme and the FAIRY FOUNTAIN song, plus the little "treasure chest found" jingle. The whole thing's absolutely hilarious and many of the moments are played out like a video game, which is a nice touch for geeks like myself. I won't spoil nothing but just know it's a great movie and if you're a video game fan which you should be if you're reading this you should probably see it.

It's Kind of a Funny Story (6/10) Edit

This one's another book/movie dealie, as usual. It's a pretty good movie; differs vastly from the book of the same name, which is also very good. To this day I'm still not quite sure which I like better due to the fact that they're so different, but for now we'll just say I like them equally. Anyway, movie starts with Craig Gilner, a depressed dude, having a nightmare about trying to kill himself by jumping off the brooklyn bridge. Basically he then checks himself into a local hospital and is thrown in with the adults due to the fact that the teen floor is under renovation. The movie chronicles his five day stay at Six North (that's the hospital, nimrods!) and his making friends and all that. The acting's pretty solid as well as the story, and the changes made from the book do, as I say, differ vastly, but in my opinion, in a good/necessary way. Anyway, yeah, good movie.

Easy A (6/10) Edit

...For all it's worth, I have no idea why I decided to watch this one, but I did. Also, it was absolutely hilarious. I'll start out now by saying it's about a girl who basically pretends to get it with people to up their reputations and things, er, spiral out of control from there. Anyway, when I started this I wasn't sure I was actually going to watch the entire movie, but it was, as I stated, hilarious, and good enough otherwise to keep me going. I'd also like to point out you've probably noticed I've been giving most things up to now all high ratings, and that's because in general I don't watch movies I don't think I'm going to like >.> ...Anyway this was actually pretty good, funny, and had some great quotes that I don't care to remember right now, and despite being girly to an extent is worth watching if you're into that brand of humour.

TRON: Legacy (6/10) Edit

A sequel to TRON, the movie based off of PONG? Hell yes! ...No, seriously though, this is actually a pretty good movie. Kevin Flynn, the ENCOM CEO, disappears in 1989 and a while later his partner gets a page from the arcade that he worked at and Flynn's son Sam goes to Check Things Out. If you made little to no sense out of that, you're probably sane. Anyway, the movie centers around a computer-dataworld thing called the Grid, to which Kevin Flynn disappears to. His son enters this area and meets lots of cool computer guys and his dad's computer clone, CLU. ...Anyway, the movie's visuals are really good because I'm a fan of the whole modernized computer style the Grid has going. The acting is generally pretty good (with the exception of the kind of weird beginning) and the story is comprehensible, so That's Good. This is a good movie if you're looking for some sci-fi motorcycle action and program chicks in glowy jumpsuits!

Inception (9/10) Edit

"Let me tell you a riddle. You are waiting for a train. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't know for sure. But it doesn't matter. How can it not matter to you?"

Inception is a brilliant film from the acting to the score. Leo DiCaprio stars as the dream-invading Dom Cobb who has been exiled from America and, in order to return, must complete a job for a wealthy Asian businessman. The first part of the movie details Cobb gathering his team and explains to the viewer the mechanics of shared dreaming, while the second part is the actual job itself. Anyway, in my opinion all of the actors do brilliantly and Hans Zimmer's score is amazing. My personal favourite track is Time. While it can be slightly confusing at times I think Nolan did a pretty good job of explaining the entire mechanic of shared dreaming in the first part as well as developing Cobb. It was, however, slightly frustrating that the backstories of characters such as Ariadne and Eames are left pretty much completely untouched. Anyway, really great movie and definitely worth seeing. One of my all-time favourites.

Juno (7/10) Edit

I'll go ahead and openly admit it right now that the reason I saw this film is Ellen Page. There, I said it. ...What? Don't give me that look, she's genuinely a great actor the attractive part is just a side thing. ANYWAY, this is actually pretty good. Juno MacGuff gets it with Paulie Bleeker in the beginning of the movie, and after drinking "like ten tons" of Sunny D and getting a pregnancy test from a convenience store owner who also happens to be Rainn motherfreaking Wilson, she finds out she's effectively up the duff. Anyhow, the movie chronicles her pregnancy and how she ends up handling things. I admit about a half an hour in I honestly thought I wouldn't be able to finish the movie due to some of the oddity of it, but as the film progressed I grew to like Juno as well as the other characters. However, I'll go ahead and say right now that Bleeker is totally underdeveloped. And yes, I know, I know, it's a movie about a teen pregnancy, it's not SUPPOSED to have developed characters, but there you go. Anyhow, this is pretty good but by no means a favourite of mine. Also, I was genuinely unaware that they were allowed to say f*ck in a PG-13 movie. Science! It's also worth noting that the movie's constant self-reference is pretty damn funny.

For the record, I'd change the rating here, but because I've developed a sort of attachment to the movie any ratings I'd give it would be totally biased so I'm sticking with this.

Green Lantern (5/10) Edit

I really don't have much of an opinion on this. In my opinion, the movie was alright, but one of the antagonists was filled with Narm. Because of this fear virus DNA or whatever his head like, blows up and gets all huge and it's hilarious. Anywho, it's a decent movie but I really don't have much to say about it.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (7/10) Edit

I really liked this movie. The awesome and yet very predictable Michael Cera returns for another role as the dorky lovable guy with Kat Dennings, a chick you may or may not have ever heard of. When Norah (Dennings) and Nick (Cera) end up at the same party, plus Norah's friend Caroline gets drunk, crap goes down. The movie centers around their one night in Manhattan attempting to find Caroline and their favourite band, known for hiding around New York so only those who find them can listen, Fluffy or "Where's Fluffy?". Whilst traveling with Nick's gay band friends, searching for Caroline and Fluffy, Nick and Norah fall in love, and stuff happens. In any case, I think this was pretty well done and I enjoyed it.

(500) Days of Summer (9/10) Edit

I enjoyed this a lot more than I initially thought I would. Actually, on that matter, it's a lot funnier than I thought it would be; I actually didn't know it was a comedy at first. Oh, and by the way, this was recommended to me by CC. The story centers around wannabe architect and greeting card designer Tom Hansen meeting who he thinks is his true love, Summer Finn. The story is told in a nonlinear narrative, and jumps around a lot between the 500 days; it was actually a pretty neat way to tell the story. It was well written, it was funny, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt was great. Within the 500 days, Tom goes from being ecstatic to miserable and everything in between, but in the end everything turns out satisfactory. Oddly enough, I don't have much else to say about it, but I really did like the movie.

Whip It (8/10) Edit

Ellen Page! Well, I'll be honest here, she's why I decided to watch the movie. I actually did enjoy it, though. The charming Ellen Page Bliss Cavendar (...I think I spelled that right...) is a teenage girl from Texas whose mom keeps shoving her into beauty pageants and all that boring crap. So what's the immediate answer? Join a roller derby! In all seriousness, the roller derby parts were actually pretty fun to watch. Anyway, the movie was funny, Ellen Page was great as usual, and the movie thankfully did not indulge too much in the Predictability Scale™. As in, she did not get the guy and she did not win in the end. If she had, that would be...well, too Predictable™. After seeing it a few more times, I've decided it probably IS one of my favorite movies.

Napoleon Dynamite (7/10) Edit

Napoleon Dynamite is pretty hilarious. It's unique, too, in the way the movie's done; as opposed to a main plot structure the movie's basically just a bunch of semirelated individual scenes put together. Normally this wouldn't work, but hell, this is comedy, so it does. Napoleon Dynamite is an awkward teenager living in a rural town in Idaho, and likes to waste his time playing tetherball and drawing mythical creatures. He soon meets a girl named Deb, and a new kid called Pedro Sanchez, and the the three become...friends. Meanwhile, Napoleon and his brother Kip's grandmother has injured herself while biking on sand dunes, and their uncle Rico comes to visit. He's a zany con artist and gets Kip's help selling...enhancements and tupperware. It sounds really weird, and it is, but it works and it's pretty damn funny.

DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story (8/10) Edit

Peter LaFleur (Yes, that's Vince Vaughn) runs Average Joe's gym, a small gym situated conveniently right next to the super-gym run by White Goodman (BEN STILLER). Goodman attempts to buy out Average Joe's, and LaFleur is forced to come up with 50k in 30 days to keep it. What's the plan? Compete in the ADAA (American Dodgeball Association of America) Las Vegas tournament to win...50 grand. The awesome Rip Torn guest stars as Patches O'Hoolihan, Oh yeah, and Chuck Norris makes an appearance. Yes, you heard me right. This movie is absolutely hilarious and was really enjoyable to watch. There are some really great moments and well-executed jokes, and that's just that.

Captain America: The First Avenger (8/10) Edit

"The little guy from Brooklyn who couldn't run from a fight...That's who I'm following."

Captain America was actually really good. I didn't really know what to think, but seeing as I've seen all of the preceding films regarding the pre-Avengers heroes (with the exception of Thor), I went to see it. Also, Agent Carter is amazing. ...Um, anyway. The film follows the story of Steve Rogers, a small guy who wants to live up to his father's reputation as a member of the army. However, due to health issues and him being really shrimpy, he's constantly denied the chance. When he finally gets it, he's buffed up due to a German scientist's serum, and following that he "officially" becomes Captain America. The main villains in this film are part of the HYDRA organization, a fictional Nazi weapons and science division run by Johann Schmidt. Schmidt uses an artifact known as the Tesseract to produce an instant-kill energy and weaponizes it, and shortly after carves up his face, becoming the Red Skull. Interestingly, the film starts out shortly before Avengers, with some US guys finding Captain America buried in Antarctica still living. Oh yeah, and there was a neat Avengers preview at the end of the movie, with Nick Fury's usual awesomeness.

Iron Man (8/10) Edit

Iron Man is probably my favorite superhero movie, and Iron Man himself (or at least this incarnation) is probably my favorite superhero. Iron Man is very well done, superhero movie wise, and the character is brilliant. He knows he's a genius, everyone else knows he's a genius, and he lets them eat it all up. He's not noble or necessarily heroic like all the other superheros; he loves attention and he likes being as grand as he can. He's somewhat of an egotist, I guess, but he's a brilliant one, so that's...okay? ^{[citation needed]} The film revolves around Tony Stark becoming Iron Man, and the creation of the suit, starting with Tony being captured by a terrorist organization known as the Ten Rings. They command him to build his superpowered missile, but instead, he builds the prototype suit and blows his way out of their compound and back to civilization. The rest of the film centers around Tony finding out that his supposed business partner actually hired the Ten Rings to kill him, and he becomes the main antagonist. Tony also fully develops the Mark II Iron Man suit, and, well...Yeah. It's just awesome.

Iron Man 2 (8/10) Edit

Robert Downey, Jr. reprises his role as the badass Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, in the quite great (see previous review) film released shortly beforehand. Tony Stark has announced his identity as Iron Man, and is now even more famous than he once was. There is, however, a slight complication: due to the materials that his chest's core (an arc reactor) is made out of, he's dying. To keep himself alive, Stark has to constantly switch out small metal cards from the core as well as drink insane amounts of alcohol per day, which, as you could guess, makes him a complete wreck. Making matters worse is Ivan Vanko, a problematic Russian with electric whips. To top it off, when Rhodey from the previous film shows up, he kicks Stark's ass and takes one of his suits. Stark is approached by Nick Fury, who leaves him his father's cles to a new element, and the only one that will keep him alive. This film is of the same caliber as the first, and by that I mean it's just as great. Also, Scarlett Johansson is damn hot, and she lives up to all of our expectations. Need I say anything more? ...No, really, that last comment aside, the film's great and Tony Stark remains the most badass superhero ever.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (8/10) Edit

Talladega Nights is a masterpiece of comedic brilliance starring the one and only Will Ferrel, who kicks ass once again in the shoes of superstar racer Ricky Bobby, married to a slutty blonde girl and living the rich life with his two sons, Walker and Texas Ranger Bobby. However, as Ricky starts to do worse in races and is beaten by Jon Girard, things go downhill, and...Well, the movie is joke after joke and I think it's pretty hilarious and worth seeing if you're into that. Appearances by Jack McBrayer and a few other lovable actors/actresses are just icing on the cake. Kenneth forever! ...Okay, I'm good.

Batman Begins (9/10) Edit

Batman Begins might now surpass Iron Man as my favorite superhero story. Christopher Nolan tells the origin story of Batman himself and it's done very, very well. After Bruce Wayne's parents are killed, something he blames on his own fear, he lives his life and guilt in anger until he attempts to kill his parents' murderer but is beat to the punch. He then moves to Asia, where he lives in the underworld for quite a while...before meeting a mysterious figure called Henri Ducard. After training in Ducard's master Ra's Al Ghul's temple, Wayne returns to Gotham city and finds it infested with crime. With the help of Lucius Fox, he creates the Batman suit, and, well...sh#t happens. Anyway, all in all, really well done and great movie. I enjoyed pretty much every minute of it.

Live Free or Die Hard (7/10) Edit

I actually have not seen anything else in the Die Hard franchise but I honestly don't think I needed to as the movie was perfectly fine to understand without having done so. I did like this movie a lot, and Justin Long is pretty awesome as Matt Farrel, computer hacker and (at least by the movie's end) badass-in-training. The movie centers around an ex-government dude setting up a 'fire sale', which is, in essence, remotely shutting down the country's electronic systems (and, by the transitive property, everything controlled by them) via remote access. John McClane begins to investigate with Matt Farrel tagging along. And that's just about that. I did enjoy this movie a lot.

The Dark Knight (9/10) Edit

It's a Christopher Nolan movie! That should tell you it's good, right? It's also the sequel to Christopher Nolan's really good Batman Movie! That should also tell you it's good! It is. The Dark Knight was just as great as I'd hoped it would be. The film centers around the Joker targeting Harvey Dent and Batman in a huge and very well planned Xanatos Gambit. The film was done fantastically from start to finish, and Two-Face and the Joker were really great villains. Batman himself was, of course, badass as usual. Just to clarify, Christopher Nolan is like, my favorite director ever. I can't wait to see The Dark Knight Rises.

Up (9/10) Edit

I do love Pixar. Their movies are just really well done. Up is, obviously, no exception. Carl Fredricksen and his wife Ellie planned to go to the lovely Paradise Falls in South America at some point in life; however, whenever they got close, something happened and they were forced to spend their saved money on something else. Eventually, Ellie dies (of just old age, I think...?); this leaves Carl bitter and frustrated. However, when he's told he's going to be picked up for a retirement home, he executes his plan and shoots a couple of thousand balloons out of his chimney, flying his house away. A Wilderness Explorer called Russell ends up tagging along due to...unseen circumstances. Anyway, it was a really great movie and very entertaining; I also really liked the animation style.

Something Borrowed (8/10) Edit

It's about this girl who has been in love with her best friend's fiance forever and it turns out he has been in love with her forever so they start having this affair and then John Krasinski's character Ethan gets involved and he's hilarious and I DON'T HAVE TO JUSTIFY MYSELF TO YOU

Christopher Nolan's low-budget film debut starring some very little known actors. This movie was very short and yet very, very well done. I found the plot really interesting and although the actors were all 'unprofessional', or so it'd seem, they did a really great job and I think it was written well as well. There's not much else I can say about it, but I'd recommend seeing it if you like Christopher Nolan or FILM NOIR. Which it is. It's also in black and white, which is awesome.

Valentine's Day (8/10) Edit

This was actually surprisingly funny and I really enjoyed it. I don't have too much to say in specific, but it featured a whole load of recognizable people and they pretty much all did well and were funny, so that's...good. Oh yeah, and I guess the soundtrack was kind of cool. I also tend to really enjoy those kinds of films featuring a group of different people who are revealed to have all kinds of these connections between themselves. Anyway, yeah, I liked the movie a lot. Also, Emma Roberts may or may not be particularly beautiful. *COUGH*

Memento (9/10) Edit

Memento provides a level of awesomeness and nonlinearity only achieved through being written and directed by Christopher Nolan. This movie had an amazing plot and was presented brilliantly, and the ending was pretty perfect. Instead of listening to me ramble about it, just go watch it. Seriously.

Thor (7/10) Edit

Thor is one of the latest installments in the ever growing Marvel film franchise and like the others, it's pretty good. I didn't like it quite as much as the others (excluding The Incredible Hulk), but like I said, good nonetheless. The film starts with Thor, the son of Odin, roayally screwing up by attacking another freakin' planet and getting everyone involved in a war before being banished to earth, where he meets Natalie Portman Jane Foster. Also, Loki does stuff. Anyway, 'twas an okay movie and I did like Thor himself (and Loki, I guess) as a character, so that's good.

Wedding Crashers (8/10) Edit

Wedding Crashers is an awesome romantic comedy about two guys who practically professionally crash weddings to get women. Also, Owen Wilson is freakin' awesome. Just throwing that out there. Anyway, basically, John and Jeremy, the two main characters, go to crash the Secretary of the Treasury's daughter's wedding. However, John starts falling for this one girl, and...Also, I'm terrible at describing things and frankly I'm kind of out of it right now so go read the Wikipedia article or something, man. Point is I really liked it.

Meet the Parents (7/10) Edit

A pretty great comedy starring the awesome Ben Stiller as Gaylord "Greg" Focker, who has finally found the girl who he wants to marry. Except her dad is this lunatic ex-CIA agent who has hated every one of her boyfriends and Greg is no exception. Greg manages to screw everything up and hilarity ensues. Ben Stiller was great as was Robert De Niro. Another one of those ones that I don't have too much to say about (seems to be happening a lot lately :p).

X-Men: First Class (8/10) Edit

Let me start out by saying at this point I've actually only seen the first X-Men movie (which I've heard is the best of the trilogy). At any rate, I enjoyed this a lot. It tells the story of the origins of Magneto and Professor Xavier and has a nice little title-drop of sorts at the end relating to why the X-Men are called such (I assume it's explained in the comics somewhere, but for people like myself who never read them...). It was pretty well done, not a total forgone conclusion, and I actually liked the score a lot.

Another very, very good Christopher Nolan film about two magicians who desperately try to outwit each other (and one of them is trying to figure out the other's trick). I didn't think I'd like this movie as much as I did, but it's definitely somewhere in my top ten that I'll never get around to making. Oh yeah, and there are a bunch of great plot twists in there which makes it all very awesome. Apparently this was based off of a novel, so I might go read that sometime, eventually, maybe.
