from Zeldapedia, the Legend of Zelda wiki

We here at Zeldapedia like things to be uniform and everything so this Manual of Style is here to set things straight. For information on the most basic writing techniques and styles, which are used here, see Wikipedia's Manual of Style.

Below are some basic Zeldapedia formatting "do's" and "don't's."

Contents

[edit] General article info

In general, characters, items and locations of the Legend of Zelda series should have their own article. However, some items, such as the Essences of Nature, that mostly share the same function have all been put in one page.

Reappearing characters, items and places should be disambiguated into game-specific articles; for example, Agahnim is a reappearing character, so different pages have been created for the A Link to the Past character and the Oracle of Seasons mini-boss. Be sure to properly link to avoid links leading to disambiguation pages such as the Agahnim page.

[edit] Characters

Character articles should serve as a complete biography of the character in question. A proper character article should contain all the following;

  • An infobox.
  • An intro text with name, what this character does and where s/he is located in the game s/he appears in.
  • A more fleshed-out biography under a "Biography" header. If the section contains spoilers, add the Spoiler template. Do not forget to close it with an Endspoiler template.
  • It should not have a trivia section, as it is discouraged. Try to find a way to integrate "fun facts" into other sections in the article.
  • The Navigation template for the game the character appears in.
  • Be properly, game-specifically categorized, e.g. Category:The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening characters.
  • Any unverified information, e.g. theoretical information should be put in a "Possible origin/meaning" header.

Pieman is a character from The Legend of Zelda. He is a legendary bard that tells tall tales. He can be found in Mos Eisley.

[edit] Biography

Pieman was born in a pie shop, specifically, Mrs. Lovett's pie shop in Fleet Street, London. He eventually became a famous bard and had to work double time to afford the ever increasing price of pretzels.

In the game, he doesn't really do anything. The evil lord Canon is defeated by someone else. In the ending, Pieman can be seen writing a song.

[edit] Items

An item article should contain all the following:

[edit] Locations

A location article should contain all of the following:

[edit] Enemies

An enemy article should contain all of the following:

[edit] Images

Images should be present in most articles, however, images that have nothing to do with the article in question will be removed. Upload an image to add it to an article. When uploading new images, try to find categories for them. All games have Character, Location, Item, and Enemy Image categorized. For example, an enemy image for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening should be categorized as Category:The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Enemy Images. And do not forget to add the image's copyright information.

If an uploaded image is a duplicate file, it will be deleted without warning. If you see a duplicate file somewhere, please add a Speedy deletion template to it so the Administrators can delete it.

[edit] Dungeons

Dungeon pages must have:

  • An infobox
  • Section on role in the story
  • Info on the dungeon itself. Location, architecture and themes.
  • Enemy info
  • Boss and mini-boss info
  • Item info
  • Enemy info

[edit] Point of view

All articles should have an in-universe, third-person point of view. For example,

"Link defeats Ganondorf on Hyrule Field."

is better than...

"The player defeats Ganondorf on Hyrule Field,"

and it should never say

"You defeat Ganondorf on Hyrule Field."

Articles should also be in present tense. For example,

"Link travels through Kokiri Forest."

is better then...

"Link traveled through Kokiri Forest."

Information about events that occured prior to the active story in a game should be chronicled in the past tense.
