Thieves are recurring enemies in the The Legend of Zelda series. They never directly damage Link; rather, they try to run into him and cause him to drop a random selection of expendable items.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Thieves appear as Hylians in the Light World and anthropomorphic fox-like beings in the Dark World. They attack by bumping into Link, causing bombs, arrows, and Rupees to fall onto the ground, which they then attempt to steal before Link can retrieve them. "Stolen" items can in no way be retrieved. Interestingly, unlike most regular enemies, they cannot be defeated as such, and do not deal any damage. Link can push thieves away from him by using his sword, but the best strategy is simply to avoid them.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures

Thieves have overrun Kakariko Village by the time Link arrives. In order to proceed, he must find and capture all ten thieves by throwing them inside a cage. The thieves attempt to run into Link and knock loose his Force Gems when he encounters them, though they can be stunned momentarily by a single sword attack and can be picked up and thrown. It is impossible for Link to kill the thieves; likewise, they do not deal any damage to Link.
