Soulcalibur II is a video game in Namco's Soul series of fighting games. In the GameCube version of the game, Link is included as a playable character.

Style Edit

Link fights primarily using his sword, with many of his attacks being taken from previous games in the Legend of Zelda series games, such as the Spin Attack. Link also has attacks where he uses some of his trademark items; namely the bow, Boomerang, and Bombs. The color of Link's tunic can be changed from green to red, blue and purple, of which the latter two are unlockables.

In-game profile Edit

Once upon a time, Hyrule's tranquility was shattered by the arrival of several disasters. The calamities brought dark, ominous clouds which shut out the sun. Surprisingly, it came to light that a magician was to blame for the disasters. Just as the people were about to lose all hope, the sun miraculously returned. Link, who was summoned by Princess Zelda to find the cause of the disasters, successfully defeated the magician. The people of Hyrule rejoiced in the belief that eternal peace would rule.

Unfortunately, this was not to be. It became clear that the magician responsible for the disasters was in fact controlled by an evil sword called Soul Edge, which existed in another world. Furthermore, the fragments of the Soul Edge were gathering in this other world. Knowing that the resurrection of the evil blade must be prevented at all costs, Link chose to travel to the other world and destroy Soul Edge. Link gathered his trusted Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Ocarina of Time, and set off on a secret journey.

Weapons Edit

While Link's default weapon set is the Master Sword paired with the Hylian Shield, several other weapons are unlockable, each affecting gameplay somehow. These include:

Soul Edge Edit

Soul Edge

Soul Edge was an ancient cursed sword in the Soul series of fighting games. Soul Edge's main characteristic is its fusion of metal and flesh.

In Soulcalibur II, many warriors set out to destroy the sword, but almost none prevailed. The sword began to control an evil wizard, who was defeated by Link. To prevent this from happening again, Link set out to destroy it, migrating to the world of the Soul Edge. He managed to destroy a fragment of the sword, ending the evil that threatened Hyrule. This is, without doubt, the strongest and most dominating sword Link has ever encountered, as no other weapon presented such a formidable power (capable of creating a flaming warrior of immense skill out of one of its fragments, devouring souls to power itself up, infusing vast physical and magical strength upon its wielder, etc.) and its will on itself was a terrifying foe few could hope to survive against. The sword on itself was powerful enough to control the wizard being worlds apart holds testimony of the sword's power.

As one of Link's unlockable weapons, the Soul Edge takes the form of a sword and shield that is similar to the Master Sword and Hylian Shield, both made from Soul Edge's characteristic fusion of metal and flesh. The version that Link wields appears to be nearly fully organic.

It is notable that although Link and Hyrule were featured in the same story as this Soul Edge, its canoninity with the rest of the Zelda universe is disputed.

The relation between the Soul series and the Zelda series is mainly created to explain the appearance of Link in Soulcalibur II. Since the two series are completely different, except for the pseudo-medieval setting, the relation is not solid and should not be considered as part of the Zelda timeline.
