Raises Woodfall Temple
The "Sonata of Awakening" (目覚めのソナタ Mezame no Sonata?) is a song from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It is a mysterious song taught only to those of the Deku Royal Family lineage. When played on Deku Link's Pipes of Awakening, this song has the power to awaken certain objects and characters who are asleep, and must be used to raise Woodfall Temple from the depths of Woodfall. Later, it can be used to awaken Captain Keeta as well as a Deku Scrub blocking a Deku Flower in the Swamp Spider House.
Link can play the "Sonata of Awakening" on the Ocarina of Time by playing Up-C, Left-C, Up-C, Left-C, A, Right-C, A. The actual pitches of the notes translate as follows: High D, B, High D, B, D, A, D.
In the Southern Swamp, Link comes across some Monkeys after helping Koume in the Woods of Mystery. The Monkeys tell him of a brother of theirs who was wrongfully imprisoned by the Deku King for having kidnapped his daughter, the Deku Princess. Link travels to the Deku Palace and finds the Imprisoned Monkey in the Palace jail cell. Using a Magic Bean, Link finds a secret passageway into the jail cell. The Monkey teaches Link the "Sonata of Awakening" on his Deku Pipes. Link travels to Woodfall and enters the temple by playing the song. The Deku Princess is rescued, and the Imprisoned Monkey is released by the regretful Deku King.
Sonata is the term used for music that meant to be played on musical instruments as opposed to being sung. This terminology is very vague, however, and has changed throughout history.
