Snowhead Temple is the second dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It is guarded by a giant, the invisible Biggoron. Interestingly, while the dungeon consists of mostly ice and caverns, lava can anachronistically be found within its bounds.

[edit] History

It is possible Snowhead Temple controls the weather in Termina, due to the highly mechanized aspect of the entire temple. The ancient ones may have constructed the temple as a means of containing Goht, as well, who appears to be a mechanical experiment-gone-wrong. Either way, the temple is interesting in that the moment the temple is conquered, Termina immediately returns to spring, which implies that Goht was sabotaging the temple's control mechanism. It is also very likely that the Skull Kid sabotaged it, as Goht is frozen solid when the player finally reaches it. The temple is based on the element of ice, supported by the fact that if the player returns after beating it, it can be noted the temple is still cold, icy and otherwise inhospitable. The second giant may have been placed there to stop precisely this kind of sabotage from happening, a strategy which has ultimately appeared to fail.

[edit] Dungeon

In this dungeon, Link receives Fire Arrows after defeating a Wizzrobe mini-boss. The boss of the temple is the Masked Mechanical Monster, Goht. After its defeat, Link receives a full Heart Container and Goht's Remains. If Link is able to collect all fifteen Stray Fairies in the dungeon and return them to the Great Fairy Fountain, his reward is a Magic Meter upgrade.

The temple is a tower of five levels, four floor levels and one basement level. Most of the temple is frozen and filled with snow, but the bottom levels are hotter with lava. The objective of this temple is to go up, ascending through one main shaft, which requires Goron Link to roll across.
