The Skull Hammer is a weapon from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It is obtained upon defeating Phantom Ganon during Link's return journey to the Forsaken Fortress. The edge of the hammer is shaped in the form of a skull, hence its name.
The Skull Hammer has two primary uses. Its first use is for attacking enemies. Although it does a lot of damage, it takes a long time to use and the recoil disables Link's movement for a short while, thus making it less effective. Once the hammer strikes, it creates shockwaves that can damage enemies within a small radius, which can also stun enemies. The Skull Hammer can also be used in humorous ways as well; most enemies hit with the weapon are flattened and Miniblins can be sent flying through the air if hit by a horizontal swing. The Skull Hammer can be used to kill certain enemies in one strike, such as Stalfos, which, when their heads are bouncing around, can be smashed to pieces in one hit. However, as the heads bounce around, and the Skull Hammer's slow swing, it is better to first stun the head with the Boomerang before striking. Also, any enemy smashed by the Skull Hammer while being frozen by the Ice Arrows will be killed instantly, including Darknuts. However, as Darknuts break free of the ice near instantly, the hammer must be swung sideways to make the strike in time.
The Skull Hammer's second primary use is to slam pegs into the ground. Doing this can either unblock Link's path or, similar to the effects of a switch, activate something.
