The Shipwreck is an event from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Occurring just prior to the events of the game, the Shipwreck is the focal point that puts the events of Link's Awakening in motion.

After Link's defeat of Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, he sets off in search of adventure abroad. One stormy night, the waves of the ocean become increasingly rough, causing his boat to tip. With the current's strength indomitable, Link is sucked under and washes up on Toronbo Shores. Here, he is found by Marin who brings him to her house and nurses him back to conciousness. From here, Link learns about the Wind Fish, and sets off in his quest to awaken the deity.

After Link awakens the Wind Fish and Koholint Island ceases to exist, Link wakes up to find himself floating upon a piece of driftwood in the middle of the ocean, indicating that the events of Link's Awakening were mere hallucinations. As Link looks to the sky, however, what appears to be the silhouette of the Wind Fish flies by, indicating otherwise.
