Rem is a character from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. The most prestigious shoemaker in Hyrule, he makes shoes for Princess Zelda. His shoe shop is located in Hyrule Town. He apparently suffers from narcolepsy, as he is always falling asleep on the job.

The relationship Rem has with the Town Minish is reminiscent of the story The Elves and the Shoemaker, where a shoemaker is helped by elves at night while he is asleep.

Biography Edit

When Link is unable to enter Castor Wilds because he keeps sinking in the muck, he visits Rem to purchase a pair of Pegasus Boots. However, the moment he enters the shop, Rem falls asleep. Link shrinks down to Minish-size and meets some Town Minish who tell him that Rem does not make the shoes; the Minish do. The Minish agree to make Pegasus Boots for Link, but, because Rem needs to put some final touches on them, Link has to wake him up first.

After obtaining the Wake-Up Mushroom from Syrup, Link merely wafts it by Rem, who immediately wakes up. He then finishes the Pegasus Boots and gives them to Link.

Rem has written and published a book entitled Rem's Anthology for Sleepless Nights. A copy of it is found in the Royal Hyrule Library.

Etymology Edit

Rem's name may be a reference to rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, a stage in sleep in which dreams occur.
