- "This is the Quake Medallion! Its magic causes the ground to shake and defeats nearby enemies! Watch your Magic Meter!"
- — In-game description from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Quake Medallion is a recurring item in the Legend of Zelda series. It is a magical medallion whose powers vary according to the game it appears in.
The Quake Medallion is needed to open the entrance to the Dark World's seventh dungeon, Turtle Rock. The Quake Medallion has the power to create massive earthquakes, damaging enemies and weakening lesser opponents by turning them into Slime, and it can also shake out the contents (if any) of any tree in the near vicinity, just like if Link dashed into a tree using his Pegasus Boots. However, it cannot be used without the Master Sword, as Link finds out if he tries to use it while his Master Sword has been left at the Smithery for tempering, possibly because the magical quake is unleashed by striking the ground with the sword.
The Quake Medallion is obtained near the Lake of Ill Omen. Upon throwing an object into the circle of stones, a giant Catfish appears and offers Link the medallion in exchange for him not pestering it anymore. Any subsequent objects thrown into the circle will just cause the fish to appear and shoot a fireball at Link.
The Quake Medallion is first found near the end of the Death Mountain Foothills stage. However, the item is not gained permanently and must be carried around until thrown and used. Once the medallion is thrown, it turns every enemy on the screen into Slimes. The Mage who gives Link his first Quake Medallion claims he enchanted the Medallion, giving it these properties.
Though the Quake Medallion itself doesn't appear in Legends, its name is used for an additional effect to Lightning Elemental Attributed-Companion Fairies' Fairy Magic which it gains as it grows stronger. The Quake Fairy Magic effect lowers the speed of enemy troops within the Fairy Magic's attack range. It is one out of three of the five additional effects for Fairy Magic (the other two being Shine and Shade which represent Light and Darkness, respectively) to be named after one of the Medallions from A Link to the Past.
