The Phantom is a character from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. A huge figure clad in full plate armor and wielding a sword and shield, the Phantom resembles the Phantom Guardians from The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Unlike these aforementioned enemies, however, the Phantom serves as Link's ally in the game, and is controlled by the player.

In the second trailer released for the game, the Phantom is revealed to be originally an enemy of Link that is taken over by the spirit of Princess Zelda, who has been rendered unable to return to her physical body. Zelda is shown entering and exiting this guise a number of times. The Phantom can be used to solve puzzles as well as defeat enemies. In the various trailers for Spirit Tracks, Link is seen working in tandem with the Phantom. It can be controlled by touching the bottom-left hand corner of the screen, and drawing a path on the touch screen, similar to Battle Mode in Phantom Hourglass. The Phantom appears immune to fire, and appears as an excellent fighter, and can be used to fight enemies, activate switches unreachable by Link, and even obstruct the path of fire to allow safe crossing of a chasm for Link. It can also walk through lava and carry Link with him on it's shield. Interestingly, the Phantom is shown to have an immense fear of Rats, possibly owing to the fact that it is controlled by Princess Zelda, who apparently has a fear of rats.
