"This inflatable Octorok organ has a lot of lift, so attach it to items you want to see float. Hold it in your hands, and then place it on an object to attach it."
— In-game description

The Octo Balloon is an item from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is a monster part dropped by Octoroks. Link can cook with it and critters such as lizards, frogs, insects or fairies to make elixirs. They can also be purchased from merchants such as Beedle or the shop of Lurelin Village, and sold to them for Rupees, or to Kilton at the Fang and Bone for Mon.

Octo Balloons can be dropped and used to lift items such as a barrel or stone slab. They can thus be used to solve simple puzzles or lift non-metallic objects.

During the side quest "Balloon Flight", a young girl named Shamae living at the Woodland Stable requires Link to use at least two Octo Balloons to lift a barrel into the sky.

Biological Functions

According to the Hyrule Compendium, a Water Octoroks' Octo Balloon air sacs will inflate lifting them into the air when it rains presumably due to changes in barometric pressure. If a floating Water Octorok notices Link it will deflate its air sac to drop into the water before jumping out and spit a rock using air in their air sacs to apparently spit rocks farther and buoyancy. The Hyrule Compendium implies Forest, Snow, Rock, and Treasure Octorok all evolved from the aquatic Water Octorok though their air sacs apparently are only used to store air for shooting projectiles, while the Octo Balloons of Treasure Octoroks are apparently vestigial as Treasure Octoroks do not use projectiles.

In Master Mode, the inflatable Octo Balloon air sacs of Sky Octoroks are revealed to have evolved to allow Sky Octoroks to float freely in the air regardless of the weather.
