North Castle, or North Palace, is a palace in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. It is in this castle that the original Princess Zelda was placed by her brother after she was cursed by an evil wizard. Much like Sleeping Beauty, she remained in an enchanted sleep, awaiting the arrival of the hero who would retrieve the Triforce of Courage from the Great Palace, where it was placed by her father.

[edit] Theories

Theory warning: This section contains theoretical information based on the viewpoints or research of one or several other users. It has not been officially verified by Nintendo and its factual accuracy is disputed.

It is often supposed that North Castle (which does not appear in any other game) may be the same as Hyrule Castle, as both structures have moats. However, due to the geographical location, this hypothesis is likely untrue.

Many of the timeline theories surrounding the Zelda games believe that the backstory of Zelda II took place before any of the other games. If this is correct, it may be that after Princess Zelda was placed in North Castle for the duration of her magical slumber, the royal family constructed and relocated to the building known throughout the rest of the series as Hyrule Castle.
