NES Remix is a video game for the Wii U, released worldwide exclusively as a digital download from the Nintendo eShop on December 18, 2013. It is built around a selection of various classic games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Featuring the mostly unmodified original gameplay of the original titles, it adds goals such as defeating a certain enemy, collecting a number of items, or beat a timer.
It also features a "Remix" mode, in which gameplay may be significantly altered alongside various graphical changes; for instance, one stage focusing on Super Mario Bros. requires one not only to play as Luigi with changes in gameplay physics accommodating his recent appearances, but the level itself has been flipped, requiring the player to travel from right to left unlike the original.
Twenty-three stages based on the original The Legend of Zelda are unlocked when the player amasses 100 Stars, which are awarded depending on one's performance in a mini-game. Additionally, the stage selection screen contains a link to eShop download pages for the full games presented in NES Remix; this is represented by a Merchant admonishing Link to "VISIT THE NINTENDO ESHOP WILL YA!".
