Not to be confused with Morpha.

Morpheel is the Boss of the Lakebed Temple in Twilight Princess.[1]

Characteristics[]

Midna's Comments
Midna says:

Hey! Don't get too close to those tentacles!

If you get careless and get tangled up in its tentacles, you're in for a nasty fate...

When asked again

Looks like that eyeball is pretty important to him... See if you can't B Button (Wii)-target it and yank it right out of the tentacle!

Get too close and it'll attack you, so make sure to leave yourself some room!

When asked a third time

So, it's [sic] eyeball really is the key? Good! Keep aiming for that eye!

Once it emerges

Don't let its size scare you!

Even if it's huge, it should still have a weak spot!

When asked a second time after it emerges

Did you see its back? It's got an eyeball there, too!

Just like you did last time... Target its eye with B Button (Wii), get close, and attack using your sword!

When asked a third time after it emerges

Keep it up! Get it!

If you get in front of it, it'll suck you in, so you've got to swim up alongside it.

When Link enters Morpheel's chamber, he only finds a single tentacle at the bottom. Once he sinks to the sand, seven other tentacles emerge from the bottom of the chamber, along with a large mouth. To defeat Morpheel's first form, Link must equip the Iron Boots and avoid the Bombfish it releases. He must grab its eye with the Clawshot and then attack it immediately. After two times, the creature's tentacles retract and its eye gets swallowed, ending up on its back.[3] Afterwards, Morpheel's full body is revealed as it swims around the chamber. If Morpheel swims in front of Link, it will suck him in and damage him, spitting him out afterwards. Link must proceed to swim above it in order to use the Clawshot to latch onto its eye.[4] After slashing it several times, Link is thrown off. He must continue to hook onto Morpheel until it is defeated, causing it to crash into the wall, draining all the water in the room.

Upon defeating Morpheel, Link receives the third and final Fused Shadow and a Heart Container.

Nomenclature[]

Morpheel's name is a combination of morph- and eel, sharing the prefix with Morpha, a similar boss in Ocarina of Time.

Trivia[]

There are several notable similarities between Morpheel and Morpha.

  • Both are the boss of the water-themed dungeon in their respective games.
  • In both games, Zora's Domain is frozen and the water level in Lake Hylia is reduced. However, Morpheel is not the cause of these phenomena.
  • Both have a weak point in the form of an eye that travels along a tentacle.
  • Both require the Hookshot/Clawshot to be defeated.
  • Both of their names begin with "Morph”.
