  • This page needs to be completely redone. It isn't about the Master Sword's appearance in Hyrule Warriors or even about the weapon itself. All that information can go on the main Master Sword page. This page is about the Moveset in Hyrule Warriors which contains the Master Sword as a weapon. So it should be a pretty small page but one we should keep around for consistency

Subseries warning: This article or section contains information on a subseries within the Legend of Zelda series and should be considered part of its own separate canon.

"The legendary blade of evil's bane. Only the chosen hero can wield this sword. When attacking with full heath, your strikes gain a little extra oomph!"

Hyrule Warriors Legends Link Master Sword & Hylian Shield (Render)

The Master Sword is unique among Link's weapons, as no duplicates of it can be obtained. Despite is similarities to the Hylian Sword type, the Master Sword has its own unique type that lacks different weapon levels.

In Hyrule Warriors, The Master Sword has one skill which will remain locked until the player unlocks all other weapons and types for each character, at which point it can be unlocked by killing 25,000 enemies with the weapon. The Master Sword will then receive the skill "Evil's Bane" which will give an extra 200 points towards the Master Sword's base attack making the Master Sword the strongest weapon in the game with a base attack of 500. If the skill is not yet unlocked the Master Sword will have a base power of 300.

In Hyrule Warriors Legends, the "Evil's Bane" skill is unlocked the same way in Hyrule Warriors, however it can now by unlocked by defeating 10,000 enemies. The Master Sword also gains an additional skill that can be unlocked by collecting all Plus (Level 4) weapons and then kill 25,000. Once the second skill is unlocked it increases the Master Sword's base power 400 extra points. When both skills are unlocked the Master Sword will have a base attack of 900.

Like the Hylian Sword type, the Master Sword has a Light Elemental Attribute. Its moves are identical to the Hylian Sword's, but with some modified to be larger or more effective, usually when Link is at full health.

Background and History

The Master Sword & Hylian Shield are the weapons traditionally wielded by The Hero. While the Master Sword is single legendary blade and sacred artifact, there are numerous Hylian Shields that have been used by the Hero.

Hylian Shield

Main article: Hylian Shield
Link Master Sword (Hyrule Warriors)

The Hylian Shield is metal shield traditionally wielded by the Knights of Hyrule. However, the Hylian Shield dates back to before the foundation of Hyrule. This shield was owned by the Thunder Dragon Lanayru and apparently existed during the lifetime of the Goddess Hylia. Lanayru later gave this Shield to Hylia's chosen Hero after he proved himself in the Thunder Dragon's Lightning Round. This Hylian Shield was unique as it was indestructible and invulnerable to fire and lightning. It is unknown what happened to this Shield following the defeat of Demise, though it is assumed that its design was copied and used by the Knights of Hyrule as well as later incarnations of the Hero such as the Hero of Time and the Hero of Twilight.

In the Era of the Hero of Time, Hylian Shields were the most common type of metal shields that could be found or purchased. However due to their weigh they could only be truly wielded by Adults, however the young Hero of Time could wear the shield on his back and use it to cover himself like a shell. These Hylian Shields was not as indestructible as it could be eaten by Like Likes.

However in the Era of Twilight, Hylian Shields had become quite rare, though the enterprising Malo managed to acquire one, which he sold at his shop. This shield was eventually purchased by the Hero of Twilight.

During the conflict with Lorule, a Hylian Shield was discovered by the Hero of that era inside Turtle Rock. Interestingly, though he found the shield within Lorule, it was referred to as the Hylian Shield. However this Hylian Shield ended up in Lorule is unknown. Unlike the Hylian Shields of the Era of the Hero of Time, this Hylian Shield could not be consumed by Like Likes.

The Blade of Evil's Bane

Main article: Goddess Sword

The Master Sword's true origins are unknown to most Hylians. It has been said to have been forged during both the Hyrulean Civil War and the Imprisoning War. According to the Princess Zelda of the Era of Twilight, it was created by the Ancient Sages. However the blade itself is actually far older, as it existed before the creation of Hyrule and its origins are tied directly to the history of the Goddess Sword. Created by the Goddess Hylia, the Goddess Sword was a divine weapon that possessed a sentient spirit known as Fi. The sword was placed in Skyloft to await the goddess' chosen Hero and guide him on his quest to defeat The Imprisoned Demon King, Demise. During his journey, the Hero of Skyloft bathed the blade with the Sacred Flames, transforming the blade with each flame it was imbued with. After the sword was imbued with all three flames, the blade was reborn as the Master Sword. However the sword only obtained its true power when it was blessed by the hand of Hylia's reincarnation, the Spirit Maiden Zelda, which transform it into the Blade of Evil's Bane, the True Master Sword. With the power of this mighty weapon, the Hero of Skyloft obtained the Triforce that had been hidden on Skyloft by Hylia and used the blade to destroy the Demon King. However as a result of absorbing Demise's linger conscience, the Sword's Spirit Fi went into an eternal sleep and was placed within the Sealed Temple.

Sword of Time

By the Era of the Hero of Time, the Sword had been placed within the Pedestal of Time within the Temple of Time and served as the final barrier to accessing the Sacred Realm that contained the Triforce. As the blade could only be removed by one who possessed the Spirit of the Hero, the Master Sword was a formidable barrier to all but the Hero. However, the Gerudo King Ganondorf managed to manipulate the young Hero of Time to removing the Master Sword, which caused the boy to be sealed away until he was old enough to wield it, which left the way to the Sacred Realm open to Ganondorf, allowing him to acquire the Triforce of Power and become the King of Evil. Seven years later, the adult Hero of Time would use the blade to defeat the King of Evil, who was sealed by the Seven Sages lead by Princess Zelda.

Sword of Light

By the Era of the Hero of Time, the Temple of Time had succumbed to the effects of age and was largely forgotten by the people of Hyrule, becoming an area deep within Faron Woods known as the Sacred Grove. In order to remove the Shadow Crystal that had trapped him in his wolf form after a disastrous encounter with Zant , the Hero of Twilight was directed by Princess Zelda to find the legendary blade, due to its power to repel evil magic. After finding the Sword, the Hero was returned to his original form and the Shadow Crystal was removed, allowing him to use the crystal to transform into at will. Later on during his quest to locate a shard of the Mirror of Twilight, the Hero placed the blade back into its pedestal, allowing him to access the Door of Time which allowed him to travel back in time to when the Temple of Time was still standing. While in the Twilight Realm, the Master Sword was infused with the power of the Sols increasing its capabilities within the Twilight Realm.

Era of the Great Sea

In the Era of the Great Sea, the Master Sword was hidden in a chamber under Hyrule Castle and held Ganondorf and his Forces under seal, though Ganondorf later managed to invade the Great Sea, forcing the King of Red Lions to seek out the current incarnation of the Hero, the Hero of Winds, in order to remove it and use it to defeat the King of Evil. However Ganondorf had his minions Jalhalla and Molgera kill the Sages of the Master Sword who prayed to keep the power to repel evil within the blade, causing it to lose the power to repel evil. However the Hero of Winds was able to find and awaken the descendants of the Sages of the Master Sword, Medli and Makar, restoring the power to repel evil to the Master Sword which he used to defeat Ganondorf, by impaling the Master Sword into his forehead, petrifying the King of Evil who was buried by the waters of the Great Sea, as a result of the wish made by the King of Red Lions on the Triforce.

Enduring Resolve

Liberation of the Triforce
