Mamamu Yan is a recurring character in the Legend of Zelda series. She is a sassy dog enthusiast, featured in many games as seemingly unrelated characters. She usually cares most about showing off herself and her dogs, but in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, she learns the error of her ways.

Appearances Edit

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Edit

As a child, Link first meets Mamamu Yan in the market square of Hyrule Castle Town where she is happily playing with her dog, Richard. She gloats about how great Richard is, and she seems to have an arrogant personality. If Link enters her flat in the Back Alley at night, she requests that he find her pooch, who is somewhere in the town. If Link brings Richard back to her, she rewards him with a Piece of Heart. Subsequently, should Link repeat this task, he is rewarded with a Blue Rupee, worth five Rupees. This can be done for an unlimited number of times.

Seven years later, Mamamu Yan is one of the few citizens of Hyrule Castle Town to have escaped after Ganondorf seized power. She fled to Kakariko Village and lives in the home of a generous woman. Although her dog is now deceased, she seems to have a much kinder and more generous outlook on life. During the end credits, she can be seen celebrating at Lon Lon Ranch with the other Hyrulean citizens.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Edit

Mamamu Yan lives on Romani Ranch, where she runs the successful Doggy Racetrack. Her love of dogs has expanded to more than just one, unlike her appearance in Ocarina of Time, but her personality remains unchanged from Hyrule Castle Town in Ocarina of Time. Link has the opportunity to bet on dog races, choosing the dog he thinks will win. Wearing the Mask of Truth allows Link to see how the dogs are feeling prior to the race. The one that feels the best about the race usually wins. If Link wins more than 150 Rupees, he will receive a Piece of Heart as a reward.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages Edit

Mamamu Yan lives in Lynna City with her dog. Her dog, however, is shy, and so she asks Link to find a mask. After presenting her with the Doggie Mask, she gives him a Dumbbell.

If a Linked Game of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is played, Mamamu Yan's mother will appear in Holodrum and ask Link to tell her daughter a secret. After the secret is told, Mamamu Yan will ask Link to find her dog, which is running around in a randomly selected area of Lynna City. After her dog is found, she will give Link a Seed Ring. Once appraised, it is revealed to be the Snowshoe Ring.
