Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
During a brief conversation with Link she disappears from the present. After traveling to the past, Link saves her from an untimely death at the hands of two Moblins under Veran's command. The young tree becomes immediately infatuated with him, and promises to help his quest however she can when she's older. As Link leaves she yells out that she will be his bride when she is older. When Link returns to the present (400 years later), she immediately recognizes him and though she is not happy with him making her wait, she reminds Link that the two are to marry. However, she is mildly disappointed upon learning that he has come to stop Veran. She sends him on his way to collect the Essences of Time to restore her memory. She gives him the Seed Satchel full of Ember Seeds that allow him to clear small trees in his path. After he returns with all eight Essences of Time, she gives Link the Maku Seed, allowing Link to enter Veran's room in the Black Tower to stop her. At the end of the linked game, during the cutscene Zelda will kiss Link causing the Maku Tree to start to cry.
Farore works at a desk inside of the Maku Tree as a secret keeper for Link. Past Farore's desk and up some stairs and vines, there's a small area on top of the tree with multiple clumps of leaves. These clumps open as Link clears each dungeon, revealing useful locations such as a Fairy Fountain.
