"You mastered the secret sword technique of the Spin Attack! Hold (B) to charge your weapon! Release (B) to unleash a wave of energy with your spin!"
— In-game description

The Magic Spin Attack is a recurring skill in the Legend of Zelda series. Using Magic Power, this is a version of the Spin Attack that deals more damage and has a longer range. In order to perform this attack, Link must charge power in his sword by holding the B button down until the sword is surrounded by magical energy and then releasing it. The longer Link charges the Magic Spin Attack, the stronger it will be and the longer its range. By quickly rotating the analog stick, Link can immediately perform an uncharged Magic Spin Attack.

Appearances

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

After Link completes Dodongo's Cavern, the Goron boss Darunia advises Link to travel to the summit of Death Mountain and find the hidden fountain of the Great Fairy of Power who lives there. Link successfully scales the mountain and uncovers the hidden entrance to the Great Fairy's Fountain. After he proves his connection to the Royal Family by playing "Zelda's Lullaby", the Great Fairy of Power appears and grants him the ability to perform Magic Spin Attacks as well as Magic Power.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

After restoring the Great Fairy of Magic in North Clock Town, Link receives Magic Power. Once he is returned to his Hylian form, Link has the ability to perform Magic Spin Attacks; however, the Magic Spin Attack charge will not be able to advance past blue unless Link gathers the Stray Fairies of the Woodfall Temple (Snowhead Temple in the 3DS remake) and restores the Great Fairy of Power, who grants him the power to perform a stronger Magic Spin Attack if he charges it longer. Unlike Ocarina of Time, Link will use the charged, orange version when quickly activating a spin attack by rotating the control stick and pressing the sword button. All versions of the spin attack deal the same damage as a regular sword strike, but the stronger versions do affect a progressively larger area. A charged orange spin attack, or the third of three consecutive instant spin attacks of either color, will also last slightly longer.
