The Life Spell is one of the most important spells learned in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. It is the only way (other than fairies or healing women) to restore Link's health. Since fairies are rare, and hiking back to a town is often impractical, the Life Spell is key to survival. While indeed very useful in the game, the Life Spell is offset by the considerable amount of magic energy it drains when used.
Link learns this spell from an Old Man in Saria Town, after retrieving a lost mirror from underneath a table in an empty house.
