Most rooms of Level 2 require Link to kill a group of either Ropes or Goriyas, although the map and compass are guarded by Gels, and the Moldorm makes its first appearance in the series here.

Level 2 holds four keys but only three locked doors - and none of these block Link's path to the dungeon item or the boss. The locked doors can be bypassed by bombing holes in walls, making it possible to visit every room without using a single key.

The Old Man can be found near the northeast corner of the level, waiting to give Link the advice, "DODONGO DISLIKES SMOKE". This is a clue that the boss, a Dodongo, can be defeated with bombs.
