The Letter is an item from The Legend of Zelda. It can be found in a cave in the Overworld, where it is given to him by an Old Man. The Old Man instructs Link to show it to the Old Woman. The location of the Old Man's cave is different in the First and Second Quests. In the First Quest, the Old Man's cave is near the Money Making Game in the hollow tree in eastern Hyrule. In the Second Quest, the cave can be found on Death Mountain, hidden beneath a rock requiring the Power Bracelet to move.

If Link shows the Old Woman the letter, she will sell him the Water of Life.
