- "Hey, buddy, have you heard? There's like a temple or something at the bottom of this lake. They put on such airs with all their rituals and fancy temple hoo-ha...Then they just disappear...And what's with putting that temple so deep that humans can't swim there?! I swear, those Zoras..."

[edit] Story
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
The Lakebed Temple was once a place of worship for the Zora race, but one day, monsters filled the cavern and it was forced to be abandoned (which may imply the temple is the Water Temple). It is the location of the third Fused Shadow.
After delivering light back to Lanayru, Link and Midna used the Zora Armor to venture down beneath Lake Hylia and blow the entrance open with a water bomb.
During the battle with Morpheel, Link pierces the eel's eye, blinding it, and the eel rammed into the side of the chamber, causing a huge hole in the wall to drain the chamber of water. Link and Midna got the last Fused Shadow. Upon going back to the shrine of Lanayru, Zant appears and causes Twilight to overrun the area again, turning Link permanently into a wolf with a Shadow Crystal, and nearly killing Midna by exposing her to the light. The two were forced to see Princess Zelda to help them.
Spoiler warning: Spoilers end here.
[edit] Dungeon
It is accessed through the use of Water Bombs and the Iron Boots. The item is the Clawshot, the mini-boss is a giant amphibian called the Deku Toad, and the boss is Morpheel. Its presence indicates that over the years, Lake Hylia has become deeper, and a new entrance to the temple has been built to replace the entrance to the Water Temple from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time; this entrance still appears at the base of the same rock islet, though the entrance has been blocked off, and turned into Lanayru's shrine. This temple's puzzle revolves around manipulating the direction of a large staircase in a central tower, and using this staircase to direct flows of water that must be turned on to open new areas. Most rooms in the temple appear cave-like, suggesting it has been naturally carved out of the lakebed as opposed to man-made dungeons.
