The Hover Boots are an item from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. These golden boots feature small, decorative wings on the heel, similar to the sandals of Hermes, the Greek messenger god. The main purpose of these boots is to allow Link to walk on thin air or water for a few seconds before succumbing to the effects of gravity. This useful, and sometimes necessary ability, is offset by the fact that the boots maintain a very poor traction while on solid ground. The Hover Boots can be found in the Shadow Temple.
Another ability of the Hover Boots that is often overlooked is the fact that they also reduce the wearer's weight. This can prevent Link from sinking in the loose sand found in the desert regions, which will slow him down considerably if he stands still for more than a few seconds, and also allows him to safely stand on certain trap blocks that otherwise sink when he stands on them.
