Helmasaur King

The Helmasaur King (ジークロック Jīkurokku?, Jeakrock) is the boss of the Palace of Darkness, the first dungeon of the Dark World in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The Helmasaur King is a gigantic, red, four-legged monstrous beast who wears a durable iron mask to protect his face; his only weak spot. He attacks with his long, spiky tail or by spitting fireballs at Link. After the defeat of the Helmasaur King, Link frees the first of the Seven Maidens from her crystal prison.

In the Game Boy Advance port of the game, the Helmasaur King makes a second appearance as a mini-boss in the Palace of the Four Sword, a bonus dungeon exclusive to the Game Boy Advance port. This Helmasaur King's mask is green, similar to regular Helmasaurs, but instead of a jewel, this Helmasaur King has an eyeball, similar to the ones that surround Vitreous, in its forehead. The same strategies can be applied to defeat him.

Battle Edit

Palace of Darkness Edit

To defeat the Helmasaur King, Link must use the Magic Hammer or, alternately, Bombs on its mask while remembering to dodge its tail and fireball attacks. The more the mask is struck, the more it will crack. After several strikes with the Magic Hammer or Bombs, it shatters, exposing the Helmasaur King's face. The Helmasaur King now becomes vulnerable to the sword and bow; however, his attack patterns will grow much more rapid and unpredictable. Once he has sustained sufficient damage, the Helmasaur King is defeated.

Palace of the Four Sword Edit

Helmasaur King (Palace of the Four Sword)

In the Palace of the Four Sword, Link must face the Helmasaur King again. Again Link must break the mask using either bombs or the magic hammer. However, once the mask is broken, the Helmasaur King will spit out a pair of Helmasaurs instead of fireballs. Also, arrows do not cause damage during this stage. After taking a set amount of damage, the Helmasaur King's mask reappears and must be broken again. Once the mask is broken a second time, a third eye will appear on the Helmasaur King's head. Link must shoot this eye with an arrow to defeat the Helmasaur King.

According to the manga, the Helmasaur King was once a very shy man who found a way into the Dark World and became this monster, "hidden" behind a mask.
