[edit] Location

The Great Palace is remote, the path leading to it consisting of lava flows and caves filled with invisible enemies. It is also sealed against entry with a magic barrier. The barrier is only lowered when Link has placed a crystal in the statues concealed in each of the other palaces: Parapa Palace, Midoro Palace, Graveyard Palace, Maze Island Palace, Ocean Palace, and Hidden Palace. Without the cross found in the Hidden Palace, which allows him to see the invisible enemies, Link will find reaching the Great Palace alive extremely difficult.

[edit] Appearance

The Great Palace is fairly unique as far as dungeons are concerned. The music is entirely different than all of the other palaces, and the temple has a distinct reddish tone. Unlike the other temples that have Iron Knuckles and their statues, this place features Fokka and Fokka statues. The temple has a distinct bird theme that can be distinguished by the Fokka and Firebird enemies. Whether the first boss, Thunderbird, is the reason for this, or another sign of the bird theme is unknown.

[edit] Dungeon

The Great Palace is by far the hardest dungeon in the game and possably the hardest in the Legend of Zelda series. Link has a very hard time with out having all his stats maxed. It is huge and maze like full of enemies stronger then most bosses. It is the only palace other then Hidden Palace to contain a 1-up Doll and the only one other then Parapa Palace to contain a fairy. If Link receives a Game Over in the Great Palace he has the option start again from its entrance rather then North Castle.

[edit] Enemies

The Great Palace has a few unique enemies, and some standard ones that behave differently. Bots are found here, but they are extremely durable, taking 6 hits from Link's fully powered sword to kill. Bubbles move faster and drain more magic, yet give less experience. Red Ropes and Red Ras are found here. Also, Giant Bots, Giant Bubbles, Firebirds and Fokka are completely unique to this Palace.

[edit] Boss

The first boss in the Great Palace is the mighty Thunderbird. After the bird's defeat, Link moves forward only to find that there is one remaining boss to be defeated: Dark Link, his own shadowy doppelganger. Once his dark copy is vanquished, Link receives the Triforce of Courage from the mysterious Triforce Keeper, and returns to North Castle to awaken Princess Zelda from her enchanted sleep.
