Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D

It can be caught by catching a Fairy Fish near the northeast portion of the Ocean Fishing Hole, close to the cave. Since a Fairy Fish is required to catch one, Link must be wearing the Great Fairy's Mask in order to catch one (as the Fairy Fish can only be caught while the Mask is worn).

Like Lord Chapu-Chapu of the Swamp Fishing Hole, it lacks a wall poster and acts as a secret Boss Fish for the Ocean Fishing Hole.

Spoiler warning: Spoilers end here.

The Great Fairy Fish is based on an actual species of fish called the Oarfish, a large ocean dwelling fish that is rarely encountered alive by humans.

The Great Fairy Fish is named after the Great Fairy and its association with Fairy Fish, that are required to catch it, which are said to move like a Stray Fairy.
