The Great Deku Sprout is a character from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It is the immediate descendant of the Great Deku Tree, presumably implanted in the ground before the tree withered from the parasitic Gohma's curse.
The Great Deku Sprout reveals that Link and Saria have enabled it to grow and flourish by breaking the curse on the Forest Temple. Initially, the Deku Sprout is seen growing from the ground directly in front of the now-deceased Great Deku Tree, and appears only as a small shoot; however, when Link approaches it, it springs forth from the ground, surprising him. It is a round, broad tree with short arm-like twigs sprouting from both sides of its trunk. Either due to its presence, or because of Link's journey to the Forest Temple, the monsters in Kokiri Forest disappear afterward.
Unlike the Great Deku Tree, the Great Deku Sprout does not speak archaically. The Deku Sprout seems to retain memories from the Great Deku Tree, as shown when he informs Link of his true Hylian heritage.
[edit] Non-canonical Appearances
Non-canon warning: This article or section contains non-canonical information that is not considered to be an official part of the Legend of Zelda series and should not be considered part of the overall storyline.
In Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, another Great Deku Tree appears, watching over another Deku Sprout, who he refers to only as his Heir. This Heir to the Deku Tree is sick due to the damage done to the forest by Humans, and Tingle must give him Pure Dew to cure him. After he does, the Great Deku Tree dies, leaving his Heir to assume the mantle of Great Deku Tree. It is possible this Deku Sprout becomes the Deku Tree seen in Ocarina of Time.

The Deku Tree residing in the Forest Haven is believed to be the mature Great Deku Sprout from Ocarina of Time. It watches over the Koroks, a race that is suggested to have once been the Kokiri. This is supported by the fact that this Deku Tree does not speak archaically. Rather, it speaks Hylian, which was in use at the time of Ocarina of Time. It also recognizes the green tunic that Link wears.
