- "You got a golden bee! It shines so bright and beautiful. Still... "Bee" careful!"
- — In-game description
Originally known as the Good Bee in the SNES version as a result of a mistranslation (which was later corrected in the GBA port of A Link to the Past), the Golden Bee can be found in the cave found on the east side of Lake Hylia and then use a Bomb inside to find a Fairy Fountain. Inside the Fairy Fountain, Link must dash into the fairy statue using the Pegasus Boots to make the Gold Bee appear.
The Golden Bee is a very rare variant of regular bees, which inflicts much more damage (3x greater). It can be found randomly by cutting grass, or be bought from most shops in Lorule, but for the astronomical price of 9,999 Rupees. The Mysterious Man sells a Golden Bee at the much lower price of 888 Rupees, but only once. Link can give a Golden Bee to the Bee Guy in Kakariko Village, who will reward him with the Bee Badge. Any Golden Bee given thereafter will net him 300 Rupees.
Both the male and female Mascot start the game with one bottle containing a Golden Bee in their possession. The sparkling bee attacks and destroys enemies, but unlike normal bees, it will not attack Mascot. The bee leaves Mascot upon finding the Sword, presumably because Mascot is then able to defend himself or herself at this point.
