"My country lay within a vast desert. When the sun rose into the sky, a burning wind punished my lands, searing the world. And when the moon climbed into the dark of night, a frigid gale pierced our homes. No matter when it came, the wind carried the same thing... Death. But the winds that blew across the green fields of Hyrule brought something other than suffering and ruin. I coveted that wind, I suppose..."
— Ganondorf

Gerudo Valley is a location from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This valley is located to the west of Hyrule Field. The valley is divided by a large chasm, at the bottom of which lies Zora's River, whose waters flow to Lake Hylia.

[edit] History

Gerudo Valley is home to the race known as the Gerudo. The main antagonist of the game, Ganondorf, was born in this land. As seen in the quote above, the hostility of the valley appeared to be the reason for trying to take over Hyrule, so he could provide a better life for himself and his people. However, the power of the Triforce probably corrupted his mind beyond his original goal.

When Link is a child, he cannot normally travel beyond the valley, where lies the Gerudo Fortress and Haunted Wasteland, as Gerudo are blocking the way. He can, however, take a Cucco and glide down to a small indent at the bottom of the canyon to find a Gerudo, a Cow, and soil for planting Magic Beans. As Adult Link, the bridge has been destroyed, and he must use the Longshot or Epona to get to the other side. Once Link rescues all the Carpenters from Gerudo Fortress, they will repair the bridge, and one of the Gerudos will give Link a Gerudo Membership Card, which allows him free access to the fortress and the Haunted Wasteland.

There are several glitchs which can allow acess to the Fortress as a child. They include using the Cucco, using the Bombchu flip pr traveling back from the Spirit Temple.

[edit] Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The original song for Gerudo Valley is used in the Pirate Ship stage. Ironically, the stage is set in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker where the song is never used.

[edit] Theory

Theory warning: This section contains theoretical information based on the viewpoints or research of one or several other users. It has not been officially verified by Nintendo and its factual accuracy is disputed.

Although it is never confirmed, it is possible that the Gerudo Desert in Twilight Princess is the same as Gerudo Valley or the Haunted Wasteland from Ocarina of Time. This is likely because of how similar the location, environment, landmarks, and inhabitants of the locations are.
