Gekkos are mini-bosses from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. They are amphibious monsters encountered twice; one in Woodfall Temple and another in Great Bay Temple. Gekkos are fast and agile; able to leap high and cling to walls. Link must combine his sword skills and timing in order to reliably strike them. When in battle, Gekkos will often call in reinforcements after being struck several times. When Gekkos are defeated, they turn into normal frogs that can be communicated with and are essential to a side quest.

[edit] Snapper

In the Woodfall Temple, a Gekko is the mini-boss. As an aid in combat, the Gekko calls in a Snapper, a turtle-like enemy, to be his mount. To defeat the Snapper, Link may use Bombs to harm its vulnerable underbelly, or Deku Flowers at the exact moment the Snapper is over the pad to shoot the Snapper's unprotected stomach. Once the two are separated, Gekko can be shot down from the ceiling using arrows.

[edit] Mad Jelly

A Gekko is encountered a second time as one of the mini-bosses found in the Great Bay Temple. In this battle, the Gekko will fight alongside Mad Jelly rather than a Snapper. The Mad Jelly will detach itself from the ceiling and try to crush Link when it falls. To avoid this, Link must freeze the Mad Jelly with the Ice Arrows and move out from under its shadow, allowing Link to attack the Gekko with his sword, or arrows.
