[edit] Story

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

After Midna warps Link and Zelda to Hyrule Field, the two see Hyrule Castle destroyed in a large explosion. Ganondorf emerges out of the dust on horseback carrying Midna's helmet, the Fused Shadow, seemingly to show that he defeated her. As it crumbles in his hand and falls to the ground, he charges at Link and Zelda. The Princess prays to the Light Spirits, asking them to grant her the light to banish evil. In the split second before Ganondorf tramples them, they are transported to another realm, where the Light Spirits grant Zelda the sacred Light Arrows. When they are transported back to Hyrule Field, Zelda is sitting behind Link on Epona. As they pursue Ganondorf, Zelda stuns the King of Evil with her Light Arrows once he is close enough, after which Link strikes him with his sword.

Spoiler warning: Spoilers end here.

[edit] Battle

Ganondorf unleashes Ghost Horses throughout the battle, which can be defeated with a sword or avoided entirely. He also charges and attempts to knock Link off of Epona, sometimes repeatedly. Zelda will ask Link to keep Ganondorf within range of her Light Arrows. When Link gets close enough to him, Zelda will fire her Light Arrows with Link's Hero's Bow. Stunned by the Light Arrows, Ganondorf will be vulnerable to attack, and Link can strike him with the Master Sword. Ganondorf will not take damage from a sword attack if he has not been stunned beforehand. After being attacked several times, his horse will collapse and Ganondorf will be thrown to the ground. Link must then fight him sword to sword.

Interestingly, this fight is the only Ganondorf fight in which the Ordon Sword can be used to damage Ganondorf.
