- "You got the Gale Boomerang! This mysterious boomerang houses the Fairy of Winds."
- — In-game description
The Gale Boomerang is an item from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This item is the first item that Link obtains in a dungeon. Found in the Forest Temple left behind by the mini-boss Ook after his defeat, the Gale Boomerang is inhabited by the Fairy of Winds. After it comes into Link's possession, the Fairy of Winds activates its true power and is never heard from again.
The Gale Boomerang generates a small whirlwind around itself when thrown. It can target up to five objects or enemies, moving to each in sequence. The boomerang is used for many things such as putting out fires, cutting rope, retrieving out-of-reach items, and carrying bombs at targets and other objects. Unlike Boomerangs in other games however, when used in battle it brings enemies closer to Link or stuns them only briefly, and rarely deals any actual damage. While in Ook's possession, the boomerang did not exhibit its wind-based powers.
The Gale Boomerang appears the Item Power-Up for the Boomerang. Like the Boomerang can be used to expose Manhandla's Weak Point Gauge, kill Manhandla Stalks, and destroy Walls of Vines obstacles. It can also be used to interrupt the dual sword attack used by Darknuts and Stalmasters, causing them to damage nearby enemies and expose their weak point.
The Gale Boomerang functions the same as it did in Hyrule Warriors, however the Item Power-Up has a different design and a special icon will appear over enemies heads when they are vulnerable to a Boomerang/Gale Boomerang's Extra-Effective Item Attack. The character Ravio uses the Gale Boomerang in his moveset in his C2, C6 and Special attacks.
The Gale Boomerang is used by Link as his side special move in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. It can be used to damage foes, to bring them towards Link, and to bring items near Link. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U one of Link's custom special moves allows it to be used like a normal Boomerang and lacks the Gale Boomerang's pulling effect as it does not produce any wind.
