Etymology

"Gage" is likely derived from the word gauge, a name given to a number of inventions within the field of railroad engineering. His Japanese name is derived from "valve," a device for controlling the passage of fluid through a pipe or duct, especially an automatic device allowing movement in one direction only, often used in trains.
