Forums: Index Watercooler Theory of Why there are mostly Humans in TLP

Hey, just a recent thought:

In Twilight Princess, the majority of the Hylian population is human, not Hylian. I just had the thought that maybe after Ganondorf's defeat, all of the races reconciled with each other, so maybe the Gerudos and Hylians sort-of bred together over the years, since humans don't have pointy ears (like the Gerudo), don't practice much magic (like the Gerudo), but have lighter skin than the Gerudo, but most are somewhat tanner than the Hylians. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks, M. H. Avril 22:15, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Well, I disagree. Most of the humans you're talking about are (my guess, anyway) from Ordon. Ordon is not apart of Hyrule but outside. And, Telma, who appears Gerudo has the pointed ears. Ganondorf also has pointy ears. As for the the magic, you have to remember Twinrova/Koume and Kotake. The most possible explanation for the Gerudos disapearance in TP is:
  1. Most migrated farther out in the desert or left Hyrule completely, while the ones who remained behind integrated into Hyrule.
  2. They where wiped out.

Well you do have a point OtO. As long as Four Swords Adventures is in the other timeline than they could have been wiped out. But look at Telma. She has a crooked nose, much like those of the Gerudo. I think that the Gerudo mixed with the Hylians over the years. And also you must remember that at the edges of the desert in TP there is a rock wall. They would need to find some way to cross the wall to migrate away.

Well, Oto, you do place some good points, but I still must argue that Ganondorf had curved ears, and even if they were kind of pointed in TLP (hard to tell for me), they definitely weren't curved in Oot. And about the magic, it seems that the humans are all common people who don't practice magic, just like main part of the Gerudo population. The Twinrova sisters were crazy old women who lived in a giant temple in the middle of nowhere, so I kind of don't count them.M. H. Avril 23:10, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Also, I think the "Ordon not being part of Hyrule" is debateable. Although Shad says that they are not part of Hyrule proper, he may just mean they are a strange people from out in the country, and not the "Heartland" of Hyrule. Besides, they did intend to pay tribute to the royal family in the beginning, right? M. H. Avril 23:13, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

@Avril: In that scene, Ashei was surprised someone from Hyrule had the skill and courage to take on a monster, when Shad interjected and said it was someone from outside of Hyrule i.e Link from Ordon.

@Fused: You have to think realistically. The game designers made a set map Link had to traverse. Realistically, a desert would go on for miles on end. Even if (realistically) there was a wall, the Gerudo would find a way to bypass this obstacle (either by climbing the wall or finding a pass through the wall).

You both make good points. I believe that Ordon wanted to become part of Hyrule, but was not yet. That's how you explain the tribute. And in OoT everyone has pointed ears due to graphical limitations (except the Gorons of course). I don't see how you can't count Twinrova, even if they're crazy women, they still must be constrained by physical laws. It seems that the Gerudo not using magic is a cultural barrier, not a physical one.
