I would like to start the discussion on IF we should change how we currently include videos on article pages. As of now we have been using the YouTube tags <youtube>. This works quite well and gives us some options on size and formatting. However, it seems like Wikia is embracing making video links from YouTube or other sources as files. Just one example is this new feature they are going to roll out soon. I also have a feeling that they are going to be embracing the the extra functionality from an information side to introduce even more features that take advantage of have video links into embedded files. This is why I'm going to propose that we switch over to Wikia's add video feature. This will give us just as much control on how the videos are displayed and will actually make it easier for people not familiar with the YouTube tags to fix formatting issues since it is the same syntax as is use for images. I don't really like the idea. And wouldn't this go against the whole "Don't upload videos" thing? And if nubs see us upload videos, they'll think everybody can. Jazzi 15:27, June 13, 2012 (UTC)

This is exactly what we did before settling on the use of the YouTube tags. However, back then it offered the better options for adding the videos to the pages. Now neither one has the advantage in that area from what I see. Where the change would make a difference in Wikia's growing support and implementation for treating video links as files. With the new "related videos" feature they will be rolling out, it will then allow our videos to populate their database which could help bring in users from other wikis. I also strongly believe that Wikia will continue to use this method of adding videos for making improvements in videos features and tools for both editors and administrators.
