Karat Crabs are dangerous Lorulean land crabs similar to the Sand Crab found in Hyrule, but considerably stronger and more resilient. They also have darker coloring more suited to Lorule's muted environment. Like Sand Crabs, they move slowly in vertical directions, but will dash horizontally at high speeds. They have one claw much larger than the other.
Karat Crabs cause two hearts worth of damage if they strike Link, four times as much as their Hyrulean cousins. They are found primarily in the Southern Ruins surrounding the Swamp Palace and around Lorule Lake.
They also appear in The Dunes and the Desert Zone of the Den of Trials in Tri Force Heroes.
They are easiest to deal with using ranged attacks, but can also be defeated with the Master Sword. It is safest for Link to approach them from north or south.
