Seablue254's and Mjr162006's Guide To Archiving

This section is to explain how to archive pages. Please do not edit this section unless you are in my list of friends (see my userpage). Please direct comments to next section.

To start out I'll put down what Seablue254 said on Adamcox82's userpage.

SEABLUE254'S HOW TO MAKE ARCHIVES FOR TALK PAGES ON THE DANG WIKI 101 !!
1. Make a link to "User talk:Yourname/Archive description" where yourname=your username and description=a description of the archive (ex:1, Q1)
2. Copy your current talk page or part of your talk page to it.
3. Go to your current talk page and delete whatever you copied.
4. Leave a link at the top of your current talk page to get to it.
5. That should do it!
And, you have an archive! --Seablue254 22:22, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

I recommend that inexperienced users only archive user talk pages in this manner. Let an experienced member handle archiving article talk pages. Although the process is the same for article talk pages. The main page talk page is a good example of this.

The other way of archiving is by simply copying the content of a memorable discussion to an article. The prime example of this is the page: The Midna Art Debate.

Once an archive has been created, it is important to remember to place the archive template at the top. These templates warn users not to add comments to the archive. The template to use is this template. Go to the template page for instructions on how to use it.

User Page Size

Okay, these are entirely useless facts. It really doesn't mean anything.
The top ten largest user pages — as of 05:28, 13 June 2008 (UTC) are:

User Page Size Rank
User:Mjr162006 32,656 1
User:Captain Cornflake 29,943 2
User:Yuvorias 28,519 3
User:GoldenChaos 10,331 4
User:42bens 10,037 5
User:Mr. Hands 6,569 6
User:Melchizedek 6,361 7
User:Seablue 5,980 8
User:OldBeane 5,823 9
User:Unknown 5,797 10

I think that the data is accurate.--Mjr162006 04:25, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Not. my page is bigger than some. Also, that troll. If he whines, block em, if he works, we really cant. Right now, hes asking to be blocked. --Seablue254 19:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Had to find them by keyword search. Long list to go through. That puts you at tenth. Any more corrections to that table would be appreciated. Pointless? Yes. Fun? A little bit. I see you used the reminder templates. I thought that they would be thoroughly ignored indefinitely. I'm just going to change the month on mine once I vote. Do not forget to update yours! Or that would defeat the purpose. Thanks!--Mjr162006 19:54, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Huh...O DANG! Sorry! My dad came in to tell me if I wanted to go biking with him! Darn, that happened at a bad time. You see, sometimes a kid has to choose whether to stay in a dark, hot room and help you about Zelda, or go biking with his Dad because he only gets to see him for a couple of hours every other week :P. Anyway, please do not call me a troll, because I want to help this wiki, and this is why I have done such stuff as make the ZeldaWiki.org chatroom. Sorry if I get a little defensive when I get told that we will never be as good as Zeldapedia and that our pages are flawed. --Seablue254 20:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Your are not the troll. Our little friend who "was ever so nice" to us today is. He was just blocked. Sorry if I wasn't clear on who I was referring to. I was just any taking pictures. I'm going to work on that for a little bit.--Mjr162006 21:56, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
O THANK GOD. It's OK, I assumed that since you were taking on my page, that you were saying it to me! Anyway, I had EA block the guy (It's a good thing that I made that Chatroom so that we can get bans out faster! Vote me for next sysop!) Anyway, sorry for overreacting! --Seablue254 22:11, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

That works too. --Seablue254 22:12, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Talk about irony! My dad just asked me to go with him to mow the lawn at our town's daycare center. My sister owns and operates this daycare center. See you all in a couple hours!--Mjr162006 22:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Heh! See you tomorrow, Matt! --Seablue254 22:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

My current goal is to be first in this table. But I'm not going to just put junk on my page. And I'm not going to put my interpretation of every single game I own either. It's going to be real content. I'm getting closer. Seablue, you can get up to position six real easy! It's only 1166 more bytes! A bio would do that. So would a list of funny quotes. Over the last ten edits to my userpage, it has increased in size at about 420 bytes per edit.--Mjr162006 07:45, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I have secured my place for number one. Please make it happen.:D --Seablue254 00:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
That is soo evil. Hahaha. They'll find out very soon. It'll be reverted. It's a little funny though.--Mjr162006 00:41, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Doesn't matter. I'm at the top of the list and thats what counts ;) --Seablue254 00:45, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

You won't be for long. Ando and Adam will flip. We should focus on real content. Like I said above.--Mjr162006 01:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm getting closer. Seablue, you might want to remove the "added content" on your page. Doing that might "grease the wheels" on your goal of becoming a sysop. As it stands, Jason and the Captain might take it as an insult. Just follow my lead on adding content to your page. Try to copy over my fishing records section. Just put in your own values. Maybe put in your version of the timeline. It be nice to keep you and me in the top four.--Mjr162006 21:33, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Got it. It was just a joke, i knew i would remove it. Anyway, just 1 sec then. --Seablue254 22:01, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
It's so close. I can feel it!--Mjr162006 02:23, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Heh, heh, heeehhh. I made it. All my content is great stuff. The Firefox hints should help out many people. The funny parts are bound to make people laugh. It has a good record of what I have done here at ZeldaWiki.org. It looks good overall. It is organized fairly well. I think that all the errors have been corrected. Yeah, I can't really hide it can I? I'm proud of it. ^_^ --Mjr162006 20:20, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

A word of warning: The larger the page, the more difficult to spot errors the first time through!--Mjr162006 20:05, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Just Saying, Response

Yes, we are quite alike. It's amazing. In fact, most of my Middle School peers are, well, idiots. They think the only way to solve problems is with comebacks and brute force (read: bad.). In fact, they think that being smart is wrong, because well, there is the taunting and bullying to some smarter kids like me (hopefully!), which is dumb. What's funny is when they get some schoolwork that they cant figure out, they ask me and my friend for the answer. Anyway, my friends are quite smart. Also, may I know the exact date of your Birthday? (Note to self, get Matt something you can transfer over the internet, like HTML tips.). Anyway, if you ever want to give me feelings or anything, come talk at the Chatroom. you can make it public or private with me. Anyway, feel free to come and talk :). --Seablue254 22:02, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I've never used the chatroom before. So it will take a couple tries before I know what I'm doing. My exact birthday is July 16th.--Mjr162006 22:13, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
OK. Will remember. As for the chatroom, everyone has a new time. Just hang there for a bit, and you can PM me with questions :). --Seablue254 22:34, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Don't forget your age userbox!--Mjr162006 22:40, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Commendment

Dude, I just noticed how long it took you to edit all of those templates the other day. Hours, man. That must have been mind-numbing. :P Just letting you know that that didn't go by unappreciated. --Ando 03:31, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. It was bugging me for awhile. Took some time for me to notice how to sort them. I think there are about three or so that are still unsorted. They are locked from editing. My hand still hurts. But it was worth it.--Mjr162006 04:15, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Wi-Fi

I now have connection to Nintendo Wi-Fi. Yes, I recovered our WEP code. My friend code is 1891-2326-7002. But do not expect me to be on there all the time. I do have a couple spare Golden Parts on my first save file though.--Mjr162006 02:23, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Your Userboxes

Hey um you helped me with mine but i think you need help with yours why do they bunch up like that? Template:Nosig

That is a side effect of the edit counter. I was unable to find a better solution. It works.--Mjr162006 21:42, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Also, I have mine in containers. That is good for grouping similar boxes. I split up certain groups to improve appearance.--Mjr162006 21:48, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

You support LinkxIlia

Thank god! I thought I was the only one to support them! :D --ZeldaGirl101 01:02, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, all signs were rather obvious. Such a relationship is highly likely.--Mjr162006 01:49, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Userbox

Hey could you go to my page and tell me if my userboxes look good I just can't get it right! Oh and post your review of them on my discussion page.

please and thank-you --ZeldaGirl101 01:06, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey man. Just saw your message on changing my Diamond and Pearl Userboxes. Fine with me. I do have one request, though. Since you know all this stuff, can I either: 1) Borrow your brain (forever) or 2) Have you teach me this stuff? --Seablue254 11:32, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Well I don't know about borrowing my brain. But since I practically was the teacher for my calculus class, I should be able to teach you something. Just ask me what you want to know.--Mjr162006 13:58, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Teach me everything, Please! --Seablue254 14:13, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
There's so much. I don't really know where to start. Well, I said how I made the userbox fields optional on the userbox talkpage. You can look at the Diamond and Pearl userboxes to see where I added the new stuff. Anything else?--Mjr162006 14:19, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Firefox Hints

The new link in a tab one is wrong. As a Vista user, whenever I press the scroll button, I get retarded 3D flip coming up. --Seablue254 11:58, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

It's right for XP. For Vista. Well, Vista sucks. Sorry.--Mjr162006 14:28, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Here's your solution: Download this program, WinFlog eXTreMe. Then there should be an option to enable or disable Flip 3D. I'm not sure if it will work, since I don't have Vista. I hope it does work though!--Mjr162006 14:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Seablue, did you try this yet? If you did, did it work?--Mjr162006 19:43, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Hrm? O no. I don't think I will, because I don't really care about the scroll-click. Maybe I'll do it some other time! --Seablue254 19:50, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Could you do it anyway? I'd like a Windows Vista confirmation so I can update the hint section. No rush or anything. Do it whenever. I don't really use the scroll-click for opening tabs, but I know that some will. I just don't have access to Vista, mostly by reason of my determined avoidance of it.--Mjr162006 22:52, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
*Sigh* Tomorrow, man. It's half an hour till bed and im not gonna spend it doing Vista troubleshooting, i'm afraid. --Seablue254 00:36, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Like I said, do it whenever. It shouldn't cause any problems. It is just that I don't know anyone else who has Vista and Firefox who would be willing to try. All my friends here who could help despise Vista and therefore don't have it.--Mjr162006 00:47, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

To no avail. First, I tried WinFlog, yet couldn't figure out what's going on. Next, I used the How-To Geek and messed around with my registry settings and played on my Command Line to fix this. Tried it, nothing happened. Not for Vista Home Premium, at least. Also, don't look up how i got rid of Flip 3D, I would like to get some credit/usefulness, ok ;)? --Seablue254 20:59, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
So is Flip 3D is on for you or not? Either way, your effort clears some things up and is useful.--Mjr162006 21:02, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Did you try this? It looks like that has better instructions.--Mjr162006 21:11, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
  1. Off.
  2. No Thanks. It's off, and im pretty sure messing with my registry settings again won't change it. Now, to my user page! --Seablue254 21:16, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Gone Again

I'm leaving later today. I'll be back a day and a half later. Yeah, this may seem like too short of a time too mention. But, as some of you may have noticed, I edit ZeldaWiki.org a lot! Ando is away. Adam has been around a whole lot lately. Someone has to watch over the site. I've been taking this job for over a month now. Too many times I have felt like I'm the only experienced member here. All the other experienced members show up for an hour or two then leave. Leaving me to watch for vandals and noobies. Don't get me wrong. I like doing this. It's just that someone else should be ready to fill in in my absence. It is more important now since our sysops seem to all be busy. I'm leaving in about six hours, from this post. Split the duties if you must. In fact, we should all keep a closer eye on the site for the next week. Does lack of sleep make you talk more? ^_^ --Mjr162006 06:39, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Must be. I don't know if I am considered an "experienced member", but I have school, and I also have a pool. Therefore, I won't be around most of the time now. However, I will be around a little more when school ends. --Seablue254 20:13, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking more along the lines of users without a legitimate excuse. Among those excuses are: school, family, work, don't really care, going out with friends, previously planned trip, etc. When does your school year start and end? My school was third week of August to the the third week of May. My college next year starts first week of September. I would put you among the more experienced members. You've got a good understanding of the code. You have a good grasp on the rules. That's more experienced than most users here. The regular editors - currently - here are, in no particular order: Seablue, Ando, Adamcox82, Axiomist, and Mjr162006.--Mjr162006 20:31, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Adam showed up. I'm sure that everyone has a good excuse. It's just that I kind of consider this as my job right now.--Mjr162006 20:39, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
got it. But seriously man, my school gets in the way. Ends in 2 weeks from now. Anyway, when it ends, i'll be editing in the morning. --Seablue254 21:33, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Fierce Deity Link

Okay, this might sound dumb. I still prefer to call Fierce Deity Link, "Oni Link". However, I not using the Japanese word. I'm using my own. I like to think of oni as meaning "omnipotent, notorious, and invincible". "Oni Link" is a tough fighter. He is godlike. No opponent would stand a chance against him. Not even Ganon! All foes will know and fear him! It is suiting.--Mjr162006 05:28, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Game image templates

Hi, I saw that you substituted all the game links in the Link article for the shortcut templates. That's fine, and I can see the logic as it cuts down the length/size of the pages considerably. It's just that the way I've always used them (and envisaged them being used) was as {{subst:OOT}} etc. Obviously, this just puts the full piped link in once the page is saved without you having to type it (rather than using the shorter template name), but it means that the pages isn't dependant upon the template remaining available, but rather it uses it once at the point of saving to copy the content. I suppose there's no real issue, except maybe it would be better if I protect the templates if they're going to be used like this? Not that we ever get any real vandalism, just thinking ahead. --Adamcox82 12:01, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Using the template to substitute in the links would be fine for most articles. But the Link article was so huge that it would be better to just have the templates in. I was surprised at how much space was saved. Nearly 3000 bytes. All that was just the links. This should take a little bit of the bite out of the page's loading time.--Mjr162006 16:12, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Chatroom

Err...you just left. No talking. --Seablue254 01:04, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Nature called. No, not the one your thinking of!. Power went out. It was just a small storm though.--Mjr162006 01:50, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh! Got'cha! I was having a storm too. Small world, in'it? --Seablue254 11:49, 15 June 2008 (UTC)
