- — Grim Creeper before summoning Evil Eagle
Evil Eagle is the Nightmare of Eagle's Tower, the seventh dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. A huge, bizarre-looking eagle, Evil Eagle is used as a mount by the Grim Creeper, the dungeon's mini-boss.
[edit] Story
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
On his journey to gather the eight Instruments of the Sirens and awaken the Wind Fish, Link ascends Eagle's Tower and eventually breaks the pillars that supports the upper floor, allowing him access to the very top of the tower. There, Link encounters the Grim Creeper, the mini-boss of Eagle's Tower, again. Grim Creeper summons Evil Eagle and they engage Link in combat.
Upon their defeat, the Grim Creeper, with its last breath, tells Link that he too will be lost if he awakens the Wind Fish, the meaning of which is disputed. The Grim Creeper and Evil Eagle then both fade away, opening the path to the Organ of Evening Calm.
Spoiler warning: Spoilers end here.
[edit] Battle
To damage Evil Eagle, Link must must strike it in its face with his sword whenever it comes within range. The Roc's Feather can be used to jump closer to Evil Eagle if it is outside of ground range. As an alternative, the Sword Beams that the L-2 Sword emits can be used to attack it from any range.
After three blows with the sword, the Evil Eagle ceases its regular attack pattern, halts and attempts to use its wings to blow Link off the top of the tower, while throwing feather-like projectiles at him. Link can withstand this attack by equipping the Mirror Shield to defend himself while dashing towards Evil Eagle with the Pegasus Boots. Should Link be blown off the tower, the battle is restarted with Evil Eagle's health replenished. It will then return to its regular attack pattern, allowing Link to damage it again, and defeat it.
