The Essences of Time are quest items in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages.

The Essences of Time, eight in all, are sacred items that contain the very essence of the various aspects of time. However, when the Sorceress Veran used her evil magic to take control of Nayru, the Oracle of Ages, and thusly gained the ability to control time, the Essences were stolen and placed in the eight dungeons of Labrynna. As Link retrieves more and more the Maku Tree eventually regains her memories, and when all eight are gathered, the Maku Tree produces a Maku Seed that allows Link to break the dark seal on the Black Tower and enter it.
