|name= Powder Keg
Monkeys are recurring bit part players in Zelda games. They are often mischievous and skittish, but come through in a pinch. They typically resemble chimpanzees, macaques or other small "new world" monkeys. Most are not enemies, but either help or are helped by Link.

Monkeys play a very important role in the first dungeon of Twilight Princess. Eight monkeys are captured at various points within, and Link must set them free to progress. In return, the monkeys assist the hero by climbing on ropes and swinging him to far away platforms.

Once four monkeys are set free, they will lead Link to their leader, a large baboon called Ook. He has been turned evil by a parasitic arachnid (possibly from the Twilight) and throws the Gale Boomerang at Link from columns situated around the room. If Link rolls into the columns, he can knock Ook off, making him vulnerable. Once defeated, Ook loses his parasite, and drops the Gale Boomerang for Link to pick up. Later, Ook helps Link defeat the Diababa by swinging back and forth with a Bombling in his grip, allowing Link to use the boomerang to blow it into the boss.

Powder Kegs possess devastating explosive power, and as such can be used to destroy obstacles that regular Bombs cannot. A Powder Keg can be used to open the way to the Goron Racetrack; destroy the boulder on Milk Road on the First or Second Day, clearing a way to Romani Ranch; or to blow a hole in the roof of the Ikana Castle, granting access to the throne room.  [[|]] The Powder Keg is an item in Majora's Mask. It is the most famous product of the Gorons and much stronger than a regular Bomb.[1]

Location and Uses

MM3D Powder Keg Icon

Link can only purchase and use Powder Kegs as Goron Link, and must first pass a certification test before he can purchase any.[2] To become certified, Goron Link must visit Medigoron in the Goron Powder Keg Shop, which is frozen over in the winter so Link must use a Fire Arrow or wait until spring to enter. He will give the hero a lit Powder Keg, which he then must use to destroy the boulder blocking the entrance to the Goron Racetrack, before the Keg explodes.[3] If Link successfully completes this task, Medigoron will give him a free Powder Keg, certifying him to buy and carry one Powder Keg at a time.[4]

After Link is certified to use Powder Kegs (even after returning to the dawn of the First Day), Goron Link can buy Powder Kegs at the Goron Powder Keg Shop[5] and Clock Town's Bomb Shop, but he can only carry one at a time.[6] A Powder Keg costs 100 Rupees (in Majora's Mask)[7] or 20 Rupees (in Majora's Mask 3D)[8] at the Goron Powder Keg Shop, and costs 50 Rupees at the Bomb Shop.

A Powder Keg can also be used to complete the pot-breaking game at Zora Cape by destroying all the pots at once.[9]

Once lit, a Powder Keg will explode when its fuse burns out. However, Link can make it explode immediately by shooting an Arrow at it.[10]
