"DIGDOGGER HATES CERTAIN KIND OF SOUND."

Digdogger

Digdogger (デグドガ Degu Doga?, Digdogger) is a boss from The Legend of Zelda. It is invulnerable to all of Link's attacks until Link plays the Recorder, found in Digdogger's own Level 5 of the First Quest and in Level 2 of the Second Quest. Playing the Recorder causes Digdogger to shrink, making it vulnerable to the sword. However, it moves much more quickly, and damages Link by colliding with him. Digdogger has no projectile attacks, though it is frequently found in rooms with statues that shoot energy balls at Link.

Some Digdoggers split into three when the Recorder is blown rather than shrinking. Interestingly, Link can kill just one of the three, and leave the room. Digdogger will be slain when he returns to the room.

Interestingly, while the English manual suffices with calling it a sea urchin, the Japanese manual indicates it is a giant Unira - a cameo from the Nintendo classic, Clu Clu Land.
