The Desert of Doubt is a location from The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. It is a large desert in the southeastern corner of Hyrule, and is home to the Zuna Tribe and the nomadic Gerudo Tribe. Many small pyramids and a few small oases are scattered throughout the desert. Most of the desert is plagued by violent sandstorms that cause even the most experienced adventures to become permanently lost. The desert is also prone to various types of traps and caves full of quicksand. Because of these hostile conditions and of the Enemies that reside here, very few people have crossed the desert with their lives intact.

[edit] History

The first known people to inhabit the desert were the green skinned people of the Zuna Tribe, whose ancestors built the pyramids within the desert. The pyramids are sacred to both the Zuna and the Gerudo. As such, most people are not allowed to enter them. A Gerudo named Ganondorf, however, crossed the desert against Gerudo law in order to obtain the Trident of Power that lay hidden deep within the desert Pyramid. Link, on the word of the Red Maiden, was sent here to investigate the area. Upon reaching the pyramid, Link discovers that Ganondorf has stolen the Trident.

[edit] Behind the scenes

The Desert of Doubt is the sixth level of the game and contains three stages: The Desert of Doubt, the Desert Temple, and the Pyramid. It likely has some relation to the Desert of Mystery, as it appears in the same geographical region and contains a structure similar in appearance to the Desert Palace.

[edit] Desert of Doubt stage

The first stage, which shares a name with the level, begins in a small Gerudo camp. They inform Link that Ganondorf took off into the desert to find the Trident of Power. After talking to the elder, Link is allowed into the desert but is warned that few have survived it. A tablet in the first pyramid informs Link that in order to navigate the desert, he must walk in a direction opposing the wind. If Link becomes lost, Ganondorf will laugh, and Link will be placed back in the Gerudo camp.

After navigating the first part of the desert, Link arrives at a small Zuna camp. They welcome him and tell him of the nearby Pyramid. After venturing in the desert a while longer, Link must face four Shadow Links before facing off against a Big Stalfos. Once he is defeated, the soul of Knight of Hyrule is freed and Link gains the Red Jewel. After breaking the Vaati Barriers, Link continues to the Desert Temple.
