Chus are enemies from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. These translucent, amorphous and featureless blobs of gelatin are found commonly throughout Hyrule, especially in dark areas such as grottos and dungeons. Many varieties of these enemies appear, whose attack method and appearance differ slightly. Additionally, the different kinds of Chus leave behind pools of Chu Jelly in their wake, which can be stored in bottles and used for various purposes. Chus occasionally attack by dropping down from ceilings — they emit loud squelching noises, allowing Link to dodge their attacks if he is fast enough.
Red and Purple Chus are the most common of the varieties found in the game. Their respective Chu Jelly restore Link's health when consumed; red Chu Jelly restore eight hearts, while purple Chus yield an odd purple Chu Jelly that has various effects upon consumption, often decreasing health rather than restoring it. Purple Chus also can "merge" with other Chus, creating a larger Purple Chu. This can be annoying if they swallow up a better species of Chu, such as a Blue Chu. Blue Chu Jelly fully restores all of Link's hearts. Yellow Chus yield a substance similar to Lantern Oil, which can be put into a bottle to restore the oil level of the Lantern at an opportune moment, or scooped directly into the Lantern, refilling it instantly. Rare Chus, identified by their shining gold lustre, drop Rare Chu Jelly, which restores all of Link's health and increases the damage he can deal with his sword until he takes damage or the effect wears off. Great Fairy's Tears, another bottled substance in the game, have the precisely same effect.
Green Chus, whose Chu Jelly was supposed to restore a Magic Meter, were originally scheduled to appear in the game but were removed from the final release, along with the eventual scrapping of the Magic Meter aspect of the game. Green Chu Jelly can be "created" by causing the Chu Jelly of a blue and a yellow Chu to mix. This, however, does not work in the Wii version. Lastly, Black Chus were deleted from the game without any explanation, but their respective Chu Jelly can be obtained via Action Replay codes, but only in the GameCube version. When consumed, Black Chu Jelly causes one heart worth of damage.
