[edit] The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Carlov operates the Nintendo Gallery near the Forest Haven. Once Link obtains the Deluxe Picto Box, he can use it to take color pictographs which he may present to Carlov to inspire a figurine that will be carved based on the pictograph. In order for Carlov to carve a figurine from a pictograph, certain requirements must be met. If these requirements are met, Carlov will ask Link to wait an entire day, in which time he will carve a figurine out of the subject depicted in the pictograph (the "Song of Passing" can be played twice to pass the required wait time rapidly). His entry in the Nintendo Gallery says that the reason he makes figurines in isolation is because he does so in his underwear.

[edit] The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap

Carlov makes and trades Figurines, his figurine shop being located in southwestern Hyrule Town. Once Link has encountered a character or an enemy, Carlov will make a figurine of it. Figurines can then be "purchased" from Carlov, using Mysterious Shells as currency. Once Link has paid any number of Mysterious Shells, he is allowed to use the nearby figurine dispenser to obtain a figurine. While the figurine that comes out is completely random, the percentage of getting a new figurine decreases, the more figurines Link has obtained. Link must pay more Mysterious Shells to increase the percentage. His brother Borlov operates a mini-game in central Hyrule Town.
