[[File:File:EnemyBait.png.png|20x20px]] [[|]] Food is a type of item in The Legend of Zelda and Breath of the Wild.
Location and Uses
The Legend of Zelda
In The Legend of Zelda, Food, also called Enemy Bait,[1] is an item used to lure enemies. It can be bought from various Merchants scattered across Hyrule. Placing Food in an area where enemies are present distracts them as they gather near the bait. This allows Link to pass a crowded path or easily defeat the enemies. Within the Demon labyrinth, a hungry Goriya requires Link to give up some Food before he can pass.
Breath of the Wild
In Breath of the Wild, Food is a type of consumable item that Link uses to restore health and receive buffs. Food can be made placing Materials directly into a fire, or by combining up to five Materials found in Hyrule and cooking them together in a Cooking Pot. Only certain Materials combined can yield useful Food, and the potency of a Food's effects (e.g. the amount of Hearts or Stamina recovered) can differ based on how many Materials Link used in the recipe. Failed combinations yield Dubious Food or a Failed Experiment, which only restore minimal Hearts. Each article of Food, including duplicates, occupies a separate slot in the Pouch.
Fruits, vegetables, nuts, mushrooms, meats, and other cooking materials should be combined together to create successful dishes. Monster parts (such as horns, fangs, wings, and talons) should be combined with frogs, lizards and insects to create Elixirs. Combining monster parts with normal food items with usually result in Dubious Food or a Failed Experiment.
List of Food
Roasted Foods
Many Materials can be roasted over an open-flame. Roasted foods have 150% the heart restoration value over the Material, but will not provide any boosts. Unlike foods cooked in Cooking Pots, roasted foods stack in inventory.
Frozen Food
Frozen food can be created by freezing some Materials, either by placing in snow or shooting with an Ice Arrow. A 1:00 minute Low-level Heat Resistance boost is added to all Frozen food. Like Roasted foods, Frozen foods stack in inventory.

Food Effects
In Breath of the Wild, certain ingredients carry different effects that are applied to food when it is cooked in a Cooking Pot. These effects are granted to the player at the time when food is consumed. Most of these effects have a time limit before they run out. Also, most of these effects cannot be stacked, meaning that when a player has one effect active and eats a food with a different effect, the previously active effect will be cancelled. Three exceptions to this are the Hearty, Energizing, and Enduring effects, which can be stacked with themselves until the player character's stamina and/or health are maxed out and also with one other timed effect.
The effects are as follows:
Effect | Description | Time Limit |
---|---|---|
Hearty | Temporarily increases your maximum Hearts. | No |
Energizing | Instantly refills some of your Stamina Wheel. | No |
Enduring | Temporarily increases your Stamina limit. | No |
Hasty | Temporarily increases your movement speed. | Yes |
Fireproof | Yes | |
Spicy | Temporarily raises your body temperature. | Yes |
Electro | Grants low/mid/high-level electricity resistance. | Yes |
Mighty | Grants a low/mid/high-level attack-power boost. | Yes |
Tough | Grants a low/mid/high-level defense boost. | Yes |
Sneaky | Increases your ability to sneak. Grants a low/mid/high-level stealth boost. |
Yes |
Chilly | Grants low/mid/high-level heat resistance. | Yes |
Adding more of the same ingredient with a timed effect to the cooking pot causes the timed effect on the resulting food to last longer.
Adding multiple different ingredients with the same timed effect to the cooking pot causes the timed effect on the resulting food to last longer and can also result in that food having a mid or high-level effect rather than the base low-level effect.
Adding more than one of the same ingredient or multiple different ingredients with the same non-timed effect to the cooking pot causes the resulting food to have a stronger effect than it would have had with just one ingredient with that effect.
In general, having a variety of ingredients with the same effect produces stronger bonuses than using all of the same ingredient with that effect.
Combining ingredients with different effects will not cause the resulting food to have multiple effects. Instead, in the resulting food, only one effect will be present, or the multi-effect ingredient combination will result in Dubious Food.
